2. How is your progress?
This week I watched some videos about the sign language for Alphabets. I also follow some people and comnunity on social media that are also learning ASL to get some tips and inspiration from them

3. Points to remember from week 2!
I learn to sign my own name. Fun fact: people with difficulty of hearing/ deaf assigned some personal special signs to indicate the people close to them instead of signing the letters for their names one by one. For example, a deaf woman mights use the sign for home/love to mention their husband instead of signing his real name. Although this is only usually done for close people, I think that's a really sweet and time-saving method to do instead of spelling their names letter by letter through sign language.

4. Your feelings & thoughts
It feels pretty good knowing I can introduce myself properly using sign language. I can also sign letters to spell things if I don't know the specific gestures for those things, so that's really reassuring for beginners like me.

5. 1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now!
I can practice spelling things that I found daily so I can be more fluid in signing letters.

6. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?
Same as week 1, memorising things are a bit difficult. Luckily through the social media accounts that I followed, I learned that learning through interactive notes can boost the memories and make the memorising process more fun. (as shown by the picture above)

7. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far
Progressive and creativity-inducing. I found new ways to make learning ASL easier and more fun by following the tips online instead of just watching videos and make do myself

8. This week I learned about colours and some basic conversation in sign language. At first I would watch the video from skillshare.com for sign language course while doing the hand gesture together. Then later I'll try to do it by myself without watching the video as I was trying to recall what had I just learned. It takes quite some times to be able to do it smoothly. I also try to teach my sister the new sign language that I had learned. It is really fun when I can do it to someone else and they understand it. Later I watched youtube to see different type of basic conversations that I can learn.

Points to remember from week 2

I have learned quite a few new conversations and colours. So points to remember are not to mixed up the hand gesture for colours and keep on practicing it everyday in order not to forget the hand movement because some of the hand gesture are similar to one another.

Your feelings & thoughts

I am feeling really proud and happy with myself because I was able to do the hand gesture of sign language quite fast. At first, it was like kind of awkward. But later I get the correct tempo to do it with feeling. Even though I made some mistake at the beginning, but I still eager to learn and correct myself.

1 good thing form what you did that you can practice now

Determination. Learning sign language require memory and movements. It's needs constant practice so that I would not forget the new things I had just learned.

Any difficulties/ concerns, how did you cope?

My concern for this week is that I'm afraid that I easily escaped one's memory of new things that I just discovered. So I make myself to do the sign language for 20 minutes a day as a practice. I keep on repeating the same thing and I would also try to construct some basic conversation just for my own entertainment.

2 words to describe elective posting progress so far

Eager and enjoyable

Your plan for next week (week 3)

My plans for next week will be learned about numbers and how to express emotions in sign language. Hopefully I can do it right and have some fun while doing it.

SWAATHI A/P ANBALAGEN (A168366),9th August 2021

How is your progress

Hi everyone.Second week of EP went quite well. This week I completed all 7 sessions of my Udemy course.I attempted the quizzes given after completing the course. I learned more about basics of baking cakes, breads, pastries and etc. Besides I also made some progress to my E-book. I complied few more recipes.I spent time watching baking videos on YouTube this week. Finally I baked some Eggless Chocolate Chip Muffins with cream cheese fillings which turned out pretty well.

Points to remember from week 2

I’ve learned to make eggless recipes, we can simply substitute egg with a cup of yogurt. Besides,to make cakes moist we can incorporate some buttermilk to the batter. Homemade buttermilk is easy to make where you just have to add vinegar to milk and let it aside for few minutes.

Your feeling & thoughts

I’m feeling great and enthusiastic to learn more about baking in the upcoming weeks. I’m definitely growing more interest in baking. I did made some mistakes but learnt a lot throughout the process and will try to keep in mind those lessons when baking in the future.

1 good thing form what you did that you can practice now

Being dedicated. Baking requires a lot of dedication and consistent efforts to be able to see progress in outcome. So making progress everyday even if it’s very minor one’s considered as growth.

Any difficulties/concerns,how did you cope ?

Difficulties I face for now that I can’t incorporate eggs in my baking as I’m on a vegetarian diet for time being. So look up for eggless recipes online and explored more on substitutes for eggs in baking.

2 words to describe elective posting progress so far

Exciting & Pleasant experience

Your plan for next week (Week 3)

Plans for next week will be to compile few more recipes for my E-book.I would also like to work on my E-book’s looks, add some colours and decorations. Beside,I’m planning to watch Baking Championships to get some inspirations and finally try to bake any good like brownies or plain cakes.

Amirah Aida binti Abdul Rahim (A168302) - 10/08/2021

Hello and good day everyone! Have you seen the video attached in my entry ? Seems exciting right. So, are you guys interested to know more about my sign language journey ? Here's an update. Enjoy reading! :)

How is my progress ?

My second week of EP is working out just well so far. I got to learn about greetings, colors and family. I watched a few videos and notes, answer some quizzes and also upload a video of myself sharing a story about my family to my other course-mate. I can tell that now I am more confident to use this language ; sign language, and I think I've started to fall in love with this language.

Points to remember from week 2

There are a few important points that I learned through out this week.

First, every different races have different greeting sign. There are signs for hello, 'assalamualaikum', good morning and so on. All these signs are quite similar to each other so it is important for us to differentiate them. For example, we cannot simply use 'assalamualaikum' for Chinese or Indian people because that might be sensitive to them.

Next thing that I learned is the importance of hardwork and trust myself. I started to find the efficient way to learn this language which is honestly quite difficult to catch up at first, because the video shared to us is fast and there is no subtitle provided. So, I tried different ways to learn and finally I got myself on track now. Yay! :D

Third, I learn about color and family where I found a lot similar gesture. Now that I'm on my second week, I need to do more reading and notes so that I'll always be reminded of what I have learnt the past 2 weeks.

My feelings & thoughts

I felt very delightful to complete my tasks on my second week of EP because the more I learnt about this language, the more interesting it became. I envy those who has master this language and can confidently use it to communicate with others publicly.

1 good thing from what I did that I can practice now!

With the knowledge that I have now, I'm able to start a light conversation with those who also use this language. I can exchange favorite colors, talk about families and many more. I planned to share this knowledge with my sister but I haven't get the chances to teach her so far, but I'm really looking forward to open up her mind to learn this language.

Any difficulties/concerns? How did I cope?

My main concern is when I was asked to upload video of myself doing sign language on the website. Frankly speaking, I'm not someone who oftenly exposed myself on social media especially to strangers, and I know no one from that course. But I slowly cope with the situation by making friends with some of them. We exchanged comments and likes on our post. From that, I get to know them and I felt more comfortable being around them. They are very friendly and lovely actually :D

2 words to describe my progress :

Challenging but fun!

My plan for next week (Week 3)

For my third week, I'll be learning about places (state and capital), weather, occupation and time. I really can't wait to learn more :) So, how are you guys doing ?

SOFEA NAJIHA BINTI MUHAMMAD SHAFIQ (A168214)
14th August 2021

How is your progress?

Hello & good day everyone! My second week went well and im really happy with the progress so far. I managed to complete another 3 cookings out of 8 cookings from the course for this week. I love how the cooking class that i joined give some tips on how to make every meal looks more presentable and delicious as well as giving some tips on how to prepare a meal in a very short time as this will be useful for me when im at college or when i start to work later. I also started to learn on how to create an ebook for the recipes i have compiled.

Points to remember from week 2

I have learned that in cooking its all about try and error and it does not mean that your cooking must always be perfect. During my first time trying to cook ‘Daging goreng hitam manis’ it does not turned out well as i did not know how to estimate the amount of ingredients that were needed as the cooking course i follow did not provide the exact measurement for each ingredients. However when i tried to cook the same recipe again the other day it turned out so well as i try to balance the ingredients and just follow my heart and my family loves it so much.

Your feelings and thoughts

I feel very proud of myself that i can actually cook now and i feel very happy when my family love my cooking and finish it. I look forward everyday to cook new recipe that i have learned from the course i joined and i just become more interested in cooking as before this i thought that cooking is hard and i could never cook any delicious meal. There are some days that it does not turned out good but i should take it as a lesson and try to avoid doing the same mistakes in future.

1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now

Being patience. Cooking requires a lot of patience starting from preparing the ingredients until finish cooking the meal. It also taught me to be patient if my cooking does not turns out well and i should not give up to try doing it again.

Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?

My concern now is more towards the ebook recipe as im not that creative and i have no idea how to create an ebook and how to make it looks interesting. Therefore, i started to search on google & look on video on youtube on how to create an ebook. I also asked from my friend who is now doing graphic design on tips to make my ebook does not looks to blank & make it more interesting.

2 words to describe elective posting progress so far

Fun and enjoyable

Your plan for next week (week 3)

My plan for next week is to complete another 3 cooking and try to complete my ebook recipes!

Along the process, I got to learn so many things such as basics sign of alphabets, number and greets. I am also learned about their culture and basics introduction about ‘deaf’. Along the course, I have watched many videos and answer many quizzes. By doing that, the learning process become so effective plus I need to post videos about basics sign language that I have learned.

3. Points to remember from week 2!

First of all, sign language is not universal as I thought before we use same sign language for every races, places and country. For example, sign language in Malaysia is different from other country.

Second point, rather than watching videos and read theoretically we need to apply or keep practicing what we have learned from the videos or book so that we will easily understand and remember what we have learned and always repeat that again and again.

4. Your feelings & thoughts

I am very proud and satisfied with myself because I learned something very new to me and I managed to perform the basics sign language for this stage after repeating so many times in a day.

5. 1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now!

1 good thing from what I did is keep repeating to memorize on how to perform sign language because this not like learn theory we need to use limbs and expression. So, by doing this repeatedly only we can memorize the step.

5. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?

Because I am a slow learner so that is the only problem with me which I need to keep watching on the videos plus keep practicing so many times to remember something and that require determination. So, because I am slow learner I need to keep going and maybe take a rest for while so that I don’t feel burnout.

6. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far

Satisfied and enjoyable

7. Your plan for next week (Week 3)

I am planning to continue the next learning point which is more advanced from alphabets, number and greet people.

Nur Farah Dhaniyah bt Muhammad Fadzil A168436 (16/8)

How is your progress?

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone. In the first week I managed to learn about new recipes in the video, so this week I try to cook dishes that I think suitable with my family tastebud and the easier one first. For my first try, I chose to cook one of our favaorite dish which is Daging goreng cili kering chinese style and served it to my family. Fortunately they really like it!!!

Points to remember in week 2!

One thing I learn from week 2 is how important determination and patience is. When I cook the dish, I made a lot of mistakes and my dad who unofficially become my supervisor at that time really help me correct my wrong doings. I learn that without these 2 values, I believe I will not successfully serves my food to my family. Haha thanks dad!

Your feelings and thoughts

I am very happy right now that I have entered the practical phase where I can start cook what I have learned. The feeling when I watched my family all excited savouring my dish and said that it was delicious really touched me.

1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now!

I think it is being a patient learner and accept advice from people who are more experience from us.

Any difficulties/concerns? Due to increasing cases of COVID19 that is going on right now, it was a bit hard for me to go out to buy the ingredients and furthermore, I dont have driver licence. In my family, my dad is the one who usually go out and buy all our needs. So it is a bit hard for me to match with my father schedule and I dont want to trouble him. Again, I decided to follow the recipe from CheNom as her recipe for my Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies dupe that I conformed to earned some compliments from my family and friends. Before baking, I did some extra readings of my own from the internet and looked for tips to be considered throughout the whole process. To be honest, baking brownies isn’t my first time, as I have experimented some brownies recipes during the first MCO. Those attempts turned out to be unsuccessful as I did not prepare myself well and it was my very first try as an amateur. I did not want the past to repeat itself, thus I was even more vigilant and attentive in every step of baking these brownies.

Points to remember from week 2!

I’ve learnt that it is important to let the brownies cool off before cutting it into square pieces. This will help to portion the brownies neatly into perfect squares. Also, to not overmix the brownies batter as it can incorporate too much air into the brownies and cause change in the texture (making it more cake-like), a mistake that I’ve done before. Next, to make sure the brownies are not underbaked or overbaked by using the toothpick technique and cross-checking the oven temperature.

Your feelings & thoughts

I felt thrilled and grateful for this week because the outcome of my brownies were incredible and delicious as compared to my previous attempts. I was nervous when baking as I did not want it to end up like the brownies I made last year which turned out to be a waste as nobody enjoyed it. So, you could imagine how I felt when my family members face glowed as they took a bite of my brownies. I sent some of the brownies to my cousins nearby as well and they gave me a positive feedback, in fact, asking for more. It felt as though my effort to look for the guidelines and the best recipe for brownies paid off.

1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now

Never giving up. Here, I learnt that failure is an option and a learning experience. My first two failed attempts of making brownies during the first MCO made me realize that our first try isn’t always going to be perfect. Mistakes would be made and if it doesn’t turn out as well as we anticipated, then we should note down what didn’t work and not repeat it in our next attempt. As they say, practice makes perfect. Baking is basically full of trials and errors and I should remind myself to never give up in this journey full of ups and downs.

Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?

The only difficulty I faced was the same as before, which was regarding the oven’s temperature adjustment. Otherwise, I did not encounter any trouble along the way.

2 words to describe elective posting progress so far

Perseverance, Enjoyable

Your plan for next week (Week 3)

For next week, I would to take it up a notch and bake double chocolate chip muffins, something I never thought I’ll be capable of doing. I will purchase the baking products needed at a nearby baking store for the muffins. Also, I’ll be working on my video and keep my e-book for recipes updated.

How is your progress?

As of week 2, I made orange cake with icing glaze. I’ve searched on different pages to make a perfect orange cake and finally found "munaty cooking" website. I thought I would do something additional as well, hence I decided to do some icing glaze and also candied orange. For the icing glaze I found a recipe from "the spruce eats" website and the candied orange from "taste of home" website. I’ve baked cakes before but this is my first attempt in baking an orange cake with the icing glaze and the candied orange. Somehow, after reading the recipe and following the measurements, the cake turned out pretty good. My mom was the first to try the cake, and she complimented on the texture and the taste of the cake. Overall, my family loved the cake and this will be my go to recipe if I were to bake any orange cake in the future.

3. Points to remember from week 2!

While making the icing glaze, always at the liquid either water or milk, add them gradually because adding to much of those makes the icing runny. Always don’t forget to preheat the oven 10 minutes before the baking process so it would be the perfect temperature by the time we insert the baking tray with the mixture into the oven. If the cake batter is too thick, use milk instead of water to make the mixture thinner.

4. Your feelings & thoughts

I usually enjoy baking cakes and I’ve baked cakes at home before. The particular challenge was the icing glaze and the candied orange but somehow I learned something new and I’m glad I did. It was exciting yet challenging but in the end, I was satisfied with the wonderful outcome.

5. 1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now!

Preparing all the ingredients beforehand starting from which I’m going to use first in front and the ones I’ll use later at the back.

NARMETHA BASKAR
A168689

How is your progress?

As for my week 2, I have decided to try my hands on pastry making. Before deciding on which pastry I should bake, I did my research and some extra readings on pastries for beginners and decided to go with chicken puffs. I was initially quite sceptical about it because I have always considered pastry-making a very complicated task. Nevertheless, it turned out to be a very fun and interesting experience. The process of baking the chicken puffs was not all plain sailing as there were few initial blunders I had made, however I understand that being an amateur myself, mistakes are inevitable. Therefore, I managed to improvise for my next batch of pastries. The puffs turned out great in the end and my family enjoyed it ! I also did send some over to my neighbour’s and they too did enjoy it. I will definitely bake more of these in the future!

Points to remember from week 2!

Egg wash for pastries. I’ve learnt that egg wash simply means beaten eggs and is also an essential ingredient to give the puffs a tantalising look. I’ve learnt how to apply the egg wash on the puff pastry before putting into the oven. The egg wash gives the puffs the browning effect and the crust a nice shine !

Your feelings & thoughts

Throughout week 2, I was indeed quite proud of myself for wanting to try baking puffs. I was never confident with my baking skills, therefore pastry-making was never on the table until I’ve decided to take this up for my elective posting.

1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now!

Never be too afraid to try out something new. I was contemplating for quite some time on whether I should just stick to baking cakes and cookies, but I took the risk and decided to go for it ! This is something I have learnt and that along the way, I was confident I will be able to master the skills.

Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?

As for week 2, I’ve become better at handling the oven. However, there are still a lot of room for improvement. Otherwise, I had no trouble or difficulties along the way.

2 words to describe elective posting progress so far

Grateful, exciting

Your plan for next week (Week 3)

As for next week, I am planning to complete my course at UDEMY and do some extra readings to improve my knowledge on baking.
