I fully agree as there needs to be wider understanding of scientific research and study by the general public such that further funding for research and informed policymaking can be pushed for by the public and done by politicians. Managing expectations, clearing certain ethical concerns and reducing misinformation with proper science communication will thus be key to this. It is also important in facilitating interdisciplinary research as science communication requires a wider, more holistic perspective rather than focused specificity within the field. This enables academics from other fields to collaborate and extend/extrapolate the research into other areas, while the original scientists can reflect on and refine their work, and find more new/interesting uses of said research. Finally, the overall elevation of public education and appreciation for science and research, especially for younger generations, can inspire more to be passionate about science and potentially join the fields they are interested in, or at the very least maintain their level of education and keep up with scientific developments. Agree, should first tackle the communication among students and future scientists. By building up the necessary skills early, it can help better reach out to the public as we move out to work as researchers or scientists, not just to those of different disciplines.
