Smart, observant, cocky, but at the same time innocent. She is very ignorant of the things around her, especially racism, because of the way she was brought up. Her father has taught her in non traditional ways, and her mother figure is an African American woman, which allows her to have a more open mind towards situations and life in her hometown.

She always seems to be following Jem instead of making her own decisions. Furthermore, Scout doesn't seem to have the cognitive ability to reason things out.
Scout seems to be very mature for her age. I also think she is very stubborn and independent, but at the same time, she likes to tag along with Jem and Dill. I think that although she is always on the lookout for adventure and is somewhat a daredevil, she also has this part in her that is cautious and knows the consequences of any actions that she might take that she knows could come back to haunt her later.

She is a very independent girl. I think this independence came from Atticus teaching her, along with Calpurnia. But, when she runs into a problem, it doesn't seem like she wants to fix it. When she gets "hit" at school for misbehaving, she goes home and says she doesn't want to go to school anymore. Although she has that stubbornness, she has to learn how to solve problems. She is also very cautious, and is very careful in front of Boo Radley's house. This is because she can see that some actions will have consequences.

She allows no one to trash talk her father but is simply holding back for her promise to him(Atticus).

In the beginning of the book, She is definitely a strong/bold character. She stands up for something and has her OWN way of telling things or describing things. On pg 6-7 she said "Calpurnia was something else again. She was all angles and bones; she was near sided; she squinted; her hand was wide as a bed slat and twice as hard..." In maybe her Fathers point of view, the description of Calpurnia would be different. She likes to exaggerate things.

For example, when Ms.Caroline yelled at Scout for knowing too much, she was offended and was shocked. Scout must've thought that Ms.Caroline wasn't being nice. She is also very persistent. When she was having Walter Cunningham over for dinner, Calpurnia called her to the kitchen because she was being rude to Walter. She argued with her saying " He ain't no company, Cal, he's just a Cunningham" (Lee 33). She argues with everything and everyone. Maybe later in the book it will be useful.

The trial was an eye opening experience for Scout. Scout, in a sense, was the mockingbird that had her innocent "killed" during the trial. She realized the inherent racism that existed in Maycomb, something that she had not noticed before because she grew up around it and didn't really understand the true effects of it. She learned a lot during the trial, as well as realizing important life lessons along the way.

Scout's very young, so she doesn't know much about life. She comes across as a bit arrogant, and as an immature child. For example, when she stood up for Walter Cunningham, and got in trouble, she started to beat up Walter, blaming him for this. She didn't think at all that it really wasn't his fault at all. She didn't stop and think before her actions, she just did the first thing that came to her mind, which shows just how undeveloped she really is as a person. She is only around 6 years old though, so that is also a factor in hows she thinks and behaves.

She sees many things, many of which is not exactly understandable and appropriate for her age. Anyways, she does learn about the real world in front of her, such as who are the different parties, who is superior to who, and of course, what and how are the inferior kind treated based on their race and skin color. She also starts to accept her dad for defending a black person as Atticus believes everyone is equal, and it doesn't matter to him about who he is defending.

I definitely think that Scout has matured a small bit more through this set of chapters. One of the most prominent reasons for why I believe this is in Chapter 9, when Atticus asked Scout to not fight anyone when they bring up Atticus defending an African American. Surprisingly, Scout kept to her promise, as when Cecil Jacobs called her a coward, she walked away from the fight, and her reasoning was "Somehow, if I fought Cecil I would let Atticus down" (Lee __). Not only did she walk away from a fight, she also let someone publicly insult her, just so she could keep her promise, and not disappoint and let down her father, a very mature action from anyone, especially a child of that age.

Scout torwards the end of the novel acts more grown up as she now understands that not everyone is good in the world. I think that she is also still struggling to answere some of the deep and profound questions that she and Jem were discussing in Jem's room, which is, "how can you hate Hitler so bad an' then turn around and be ugly about folks right at home?". I also think that she is now more understanding of Boo Radley than she was at the begginging of the book. You see this when she doesn't pester him with questions and when she doesn't treat him like a criminal. Instead, she treats him like a regular guest in her house.

Scout learns that sometimes people have a reason for doing things. Clearly, Atticus proved that Mayella Ewell was a very lonely girl, so it would make sense for her to call in Tom Robinson. She did not immediately say that she was guilty, but called her one of the loneliest girls she ever saw. This was a very astute observation by Scout.
