Poem in discussion : Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen 
It’s poems like this that makes me wonder – what makes a poem? Certainly Wilfred Owen’s poems seem possible to be read as normal sentences rather than that with poetic tones. Is it the rhymes at the end of the each line that makes it a poem? If rhyme is all it takes to make a poem, then I would have been able to make one; I am a fan of rhymes and puns after all. I take it that it is because he made good use of poetic devices throughout the whole poem. 
Anyway, whenever I think of Wilfred Owen’s poem, I think of Kirno in Independence Day. It all fits in the same theme, especially the poem Anthem for Doomed Youth where he puts into question of how deceased soldiers are not celebrated properly. Kirno in some ways feels the same way too. 
In the video “The Illusion of Truth” by Veritasium, he talks about how people are tricked into believing things as the truth by repetitive exposure. The more things are repeated, the more we accept the things as the truth. This is one of the vulnerability of cognitive ease. Sure, fighting for the country seems glorious enough until I was introduced to Wilfred Owen. Whose fault is it for being oblivious – the society or myself? The video tells me that people keeps on insisting that it is glorious to be a soldier fighting in war countless times that we accept them as the truth while that is not the case. Even movies about war don’t tell me otherwise. If we spread Wilfred Owen’s ideas throughout the country over and over again, will the perspective of the masses change?
