The testing environment is slient so there's no chance of them talking and saying what drink they got. Potential lurking variables are the amount of sleep, when they go to bed, when they wake up, and what they are doing in the morning.

Matched pair design
We matched people up by the hour they go to sleep and how many hours they slept and gave one group coffee and one group water.
