From what I saw at practicum, music didn’t normally happen but I know that music is good for language development as toddlers/children can get to learn and start recognizing how the music is. Music can be included in different ways; Since there is snack time (1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon) music can be used during or before snack time, music can also be used while toddlers/children gets dressed to play outside, when toddlers wake up from nap, there are different ways music can be included.

While we were at practicum, there wasn’t a lot of singing that happened but when i was a relief worker at the daycare in pangnirtung, there used to be a lot of singing during circle time, we used to encourage the children to sing on their own and they used to get comfortable singing in front of other children. Even as adults getting to know how to sing can be difficult to try and learn the lyrics but it singing traditional song can soothe them too.

Singing helps children with language development, in the Arctic Char they usually sing in Inuktitut and in English. And the children who usually listen to the song they remember they usually sing together and its cute how they know how to dance the music or make the movements when they are singing. -Macy

During the practicum music wasn’t in some classes i seen.

I know music would help children language development because they would sing along on new song they learned. Most children would watch what we do and copy us and music can help them by copying and singing along with it. It would be great if they did 1 song in the morning and 1 song in the afternoon just so the children can get motivated on singing.

Nattiq
