  • Read article 1, 2 & 3.  
  • As you read, list the economic/ethical/social/environmental implications identified by the articles. 
  • Make a note of the quotes you will use to support your answer. 
  • You can write the quote word for word, or to save space on your notes write the article, page and line number eg: Article 1, page 2, line 4 
  • Rank the implications in order from most to least - write about them in order of most common/important to least. 
  • Identify where implications cause or affect other types of implication. 
  • Plan your PEEL paragraphs  
    1. Point (what implication have you identified?) 
    2. Evidence (give a quote from the article to support your answer) 
    3. Explain (why does the scientific issue cause this implication?) 
    4. Link (does this implication cause or affect another type of implication?) 
  • You should plan to write about each type of implication (social/environmental/ economic/ethical) AT LEAST ONCE. (4 paragraphs MINIMUM)  
    • *Note: sometimes there will only be 3 types of implication eg. no environmental implications

  • Don’t forget to note which article they are mentioned in and copy a quote from the articles of what they have said/done to influence the scientific issue discussed in the articles. 
    • *For higher marks: check whether any of the organisations/individuals mentioned in the articles have been mentioned in the references. If they have say this – they have influenced the research being written about in the article.

  • Add some reminders to your notes about using suitable language for the audience and the style of writing. 
  • If you are writing for Doctors, you can use much more complicated language – if you are writing for the general public then you need to explain the science behind the scientific issue.  
  • Make sure you are answering the question! If it tells you to persuade someone to do something make sure your writing is persuasive. If it tells you to write a factual report, make sure you’re unbiased.
