Also, say things like, “Okay it is time to go to the RED part of your binder to get out your story.” This system can also be used for putting materials back in the “right spots”. “Okay...hold up your binder to show me you put the reader back in the RED pocket.” This could be a very smart thing to do school-wide. Parents who have kids in multiple grade levels would benefit from keeping their kids organized at home by having the same system throughout multiple grades. Win-win!
