Musical identity

I would describe my musical identity is free-flowing. Free-flowing as in I have a propensity to listen to any kind of music besides country. I would also probably describe my music identity as dependent on my mood. My mood may dictate either sad or more happy music. Location also dictates the music I listen to. On the way to a party it may be more hip-hop, loud music. At the party it may be more R&B and soul. Going to church it would definitely be gospel while in the car with my girlfriend or friends it would be the latest pop hits. “The shared habits that facilitate communication and identification are fundamental to social relations, but cultural processes and society are not the same. We belong to social groups and are part of society, whereas the habits shared among actual groups of people—cultural phenomena—are part of and belong within us.” (110, Turino)

Cultural Cohorts

My identity definitely relates to my specific cultural cohort and sense of self. “Our identity involves the partial and variable selection of habits and attributes that we use to represent ourselves to ourselves and to others, as well as those aspects that are perceived by ourselves and by others as salient.” (102, Turino) Growing up in the south, you’re more exposed to southern rap and rappers like Lil Wayne and Future. Growing up in Houston like I did, you learn that the city has a culture of its on and that the music has its own feel and soul. By growing up and being exposed to it early, it will always ingrained in my mind. Being a Baptist, I feel like soulful and gospel music is also essential to the walk I have in life. Gospel music can create either a sad or happy mood and it has always been the soundtrack to my life.

He helped popularize different clothing, scenery, drinking trends and jewelry. In the picture is him with his trademark low sitting car with the Houston skyline in the back. The most important thing about him and the impact he's had on he city is his loyalty the city. He represents Houston through and through and thats important to the people of the city. After the Astros won the championship, he offered to fit all the players in diamond grills. This speaks to the person he is and what he thinks of grills.
