Obama's Impact on Young Citizens in Politics

Throughout time, young people rarely cared about politics nor the things happening to their country. On page 3, President Obama expresses,"Politics does matter. It can make the difference in terms of a benefit check. It can make the difference in terms of school funding. Citizens that just remove themselves from that process. They actually have to engage themselves and not just leave it to the professionals."
Through this more and more young American citizens began more connected in the polling system and election. With Obama's election, young voters thought that through their vote America could actually change with his views especially as he was the first non-white high ranking candidate. Young citizens didn't care about changing public education or fixing the government because they believed that their voices would be unheard. However with Obama's opinions on what should be done, young voters became more involved.

Citizen's View on Politics

On page 4 it reads, "Young people often complain that the elderly have far more political clout than they do-turnout statistics make it clear why this is the case."

The older generations votes are more likely to win due to most of their generation participating in the voting process, however due to the low number of young citizen voters, younger citizens are rarely heard. To be heard is to actually participate in the political process that gives people a chance to be heard. Many of my millennial relatives refuse to vote thinking that they aren't heard, however continue to complain if their favored candidate loses. To get what you want you must care more about it to vote.

Page 7 reads, "In sum, young people today have never known a time when most citizens paid attention to major political events."

Today with Trump, the interest of politics have grown normal in wanting to understand the state of our nation. To contradict this statement, young people are becoming more and more emerged in politics due to Trump's speeches and international affairs concerning America. Young people were in the later 2000s were disinterested in politics however Obama and Trump I believe have made citizens want to become involved as they are both unique. More and more youth citizens are becoming more involved in politics to organizing rallies and protests to let their voices be heard.
