Response: Pappy was kidnapped by the hairy man. Now, the hairy man kept on coming back to the house and now had his new target, WILEY.  One night after being fooled twice  by Wiley, he decided to just go to Wiley's house and take him right then and there. So, he did but he  ended up grabbing a pig instead of 
Wiley, who was hiding in the loft, and took it and went home. Never to come back again.

     Verity is being held hostage by German officials during world war II. She is being held in what used to be a hotel and now is a prison for the German's hostages. Verity is here because she had lost her way and was found by a German soldier, who thought she was a spy to another country in the war. Verity is now forced to share codes, what she knows and many more things in a long interrogation process. So, even though she knows that she will be killed at the end of this, she tries to buy herself time by doing various things.   In my book the setting contributes to the mood of the story because the setting takes place in a German prison in the middle of WW II. This contributes to the mood because since the setting takes place in a dark and frightening time, the mood will obviously be dark, scary, and miserable. This is proven because of the main character and her description of the prison. The text says,"...the Bordeaux Castle Hotel, which is the building this used to be." Further more, the text explains the prison verity's in. This book has given me many connections with other books and people. One of these examples is that the setting reminds me of "The Book Thief" because both of these stories take place in the middle of WW II, and both main characters face many challenges between the characters and the German Officials. The main character in my book showed many good traits, but one of the best was bravery. Verity showed bravery because she was not afraid of what she wrote in the notes nor the rude remarks she made to the soldiers.
