The celebration started with a mass presided by the college president himself, Rev. Fr. Orlindo Ordona. In his homily, he did not just talk for the celebration of our alma matter, but also on how we should start repenting for our sins because today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten Season, that we celebrate as Christians.

Aside from that, it is also the time where we get to spend lesser time in the classroom but more time in celebrating with our friends. We usually eat and line up for different rides. At times, we participate in the different programs prepared by the foundation committee. 

It has been one of the most remarkable events that PCC has to offer. This event entails the love, honor, integrity, and passion that everyone has for this institution. If you have been a PCCian for years, aside from the fact that we are a Catholic institution, it has been really noticeable that we start everything with a prayer or a mass. First thing in the morning, we say our prayers and do a bible reading. We start and end a class with a prayer. We pray before and after we eat. We pray the Angelus and the 3 o' clock prayer. We pray before we go home.

The love for God has been really evident. Aside from the good morals, core values, and distinct characteristics of being a Catholic, we were taught and we continue to practice what it is like to prioritize God. More than anything else, it has been our practice to praise and worship Him before doing anything. It is not just because we love Him but it is to seek for guidance and wisdom before we do such things. Every year, PCC invites alumni or an alumna who have been notable in their chosen field of career. They embodies the greatness of a PCCian and gives inspiration to students that we could all be better just like them. Their words of encouragement motivates us to work harder for us to excel and succeed.

On the opening salvo, there were former PCCians who has greatly known because of their talents and achievements who gave their message and greetings. Most of them would usually go and visit during the foundation week. It only shows that they still remember their alma mater and they look back on how it is a huge part of who they are right now.

For me, on the other hand, it is not just about looking back to where they came from. It is a reflection of the humbleness and humility that they've learned. It shows that no matter how far the person have gone through their lives, no matter how successful they are, they know how to keep their feet on the ground. They show what respect for human dignity is. Among any other things, the opening salvo is my favorite event. Aside from thanksgiving, it amazes me on how great PCCians are. Indeed, we are not just a product of wisdom of talent. It is good to see such institution who gives importance to the talent of their students as much as they do to their studies. Activities like this shows the great opportunities that PCC offers to their students. They do not just enlist their students to participate in quiz bees or any competition but they make way for students to show the talent that they have.

In the Philippine setting, one's talent is rarely appreciated. I could still see people on various social media platforms who mock someone because of their talent. PCC has never been a perfect school. It has its flaws and mishaps. But events like is a good one. After the mass, just like what is shown on the pictures above, there were videos of some of the current or former faculties, and even students, who showcased their talents. I believe that in that way, they were able to express their love to PCC by sharing their God-given talents. Aside from that, they whole-heartedly accept the invitation to perform for our dearest school.

Likewise, the online webinar is a reflection of our care to PCC as part of the society. With all the social injustices that is happening in our society right now, it is just right as a Catholic institution to take part into this issues by giving their students the well-researched information to guide them on where to take a stand. It is a reflection to one of the core values, respect for human dignity, that our lives matter and we have all same and equal rights. Let that seminar be a reminder that we should not be afraid to those people in authority. PCC as an institution has never been and will never be a perfect one. It has a lot of imperfections that all of us aware of. Despite that, I will never take away the credit that it continuously give to their students. Since then, they have been opening doors for students who are intelligent in their own little ways. They create opportunities that will help their students to grow, learn, excel, and experience things that they will cherish and remember as a PCCian. 

Also, PCC gave every PCCian not just classmates and teachers but also family and friends. At some point, all the students will go on to different paths. They will have different directions to go through. But I know that the great memories they had in PCC will remain in their hearts forever. That's way I love the most about PCC - it is huge ground composed of people who are not related by blood but by love. As PCCians, we are all children of God who are all gathered and united for Him and His love. This foundation week shows not only our commemoration for our school but a gathering of people who may have differences in so many ways but chose to be in peace. All for PCC and all for God.

It is our promise to practice our faith

As we begin this day with a prayer, catechism, and a mass, it is our way of living into our vision as PCCians and Catholics. It has been part of our tradition to put God first if not the center of everything.

In charity and justice, we'll walk our path
As good citizens in the service of God

In these past few months, specially when this pandemic began, many of our staff/personnel needed our help. In the Facebook page of PCC and on some of the faculties' posts, I saw and felt the kindness of every PCCian who helped in this trying times. I saw that there were donations for them like food supplies, packed foods, and even in cash. Those people kept us safe while we were studying in our classrooms. It was just so good that when the time comes and they were the ones who needed us, we never failed them.

Also, there were so many disasters and calamities that happened in the middle of the pandemic. Many students organized donation drives to send to those people needed it. I know that every PCCian are having a hard time because of this pandemic. For sure, their families has their own battles to fight. But then, to see them helping each other out to get through this pandemic means a lot. All of it shows that PCC is more than just a school but a charity who is always open for everyone. Studying in an institution like PCC is more than just a blessing for me. It is a privileges. Perhaps, a lot of students would want to trade places with me. But then, this pandemic made me realize that I was wrong.

For years, I have been so thankful for everything. There were also things that I neglected and took granted for. On my last year in PCC, it makes me sad that everything is done virtually, especially this one that I waited for so long. Who would have thought that I'll be spending a year in front of my gadgets instead of walking around the school during this time of celebration? No one but no one wanted it either.

The past few months made me realize that being in PCC is not a privilege but a blessing. I was blessed to have met such good classmates, friends, and teachers who helped me be a better person. I am more than blessed to have. As we celebrate this year founding anniversary, let this be a reminded for us to be always thankful and grateful. We have no idea what might this life has to offer next but in the present, let's cherish the moment.
