In the Project there have been many meetings and we have really done a lot of activities.

Here is what we think of some of them and what and have learnt.

PADOVA

The meeting in Padua was an opportunity to learn more about European schools,

what students learn and how the school prepares them for the world of work.

We learnt that there is not only one way to learn, but there are many types of learning, such as informal learning or non-formal learning.

In some countries schools have more technological devices. They study many scientific subjects and they have less humanities than Italy. Also the relationship that students have with their teachers is less formal than in Italy.

PADOVA
During the meeting we visited IBM Italy.

Innovation is very important for IBM. One of their new “products” is a weather forecast app useful in a lot of fields. Nowadays data is very valuable, it is like a new currency. Data scientist, they told us, will be one of the jobs of the future.

After the presentation, the IBM staff told us about DESIGN THINKING.

We were divided into groups. We had to think of original things to put in a vending machine.

Every group had a possible customer. What would a sport-loving teenager need? Or maybe a single father with three kids?

Keeping the customer’s needs in mind we had to decide which things to insert into the vending machine. Things our fictional customer would like, need, or find interesting.

By the end, the vending machine was full of great ideas!

It was a very useful learning experience because we understood that to be successful, one needs to know and understand the customers’ needs. (Narcisa 5 A)

ROERMOND

On Monday we had to create a drawing machine with toys and other simple objects. It was an interesting activity because you had to understand the others and to make yourself understood in a group. It also improved creative skills .

On Wednesday we visited Fontys International University. First there was a conference on Intercultural relationships. Then we played a game. We had to build a Lego wall with specific instructions to follow which were different for each students, but we could not speak. We understood the great importance of skills like oral communication, team working and problem solving.

ROERMOND
On Thursday we visited Rockwool company. There a member of the company gave the group the main information about his job. I learnt about the story and the present situation of the Company. Then in little groups we visited the factory. We understood that all companies have a mission and a style and that it is important to understand it when you look for a job or write your CV!

In Roermond we also visited the Town Hall . The Deputy Major gave a speech about the importance of being part of a united Europe and about job opportunities in Roermond. I really enjoyed the time spent there. I liked the way the presentation went on. Roermond is a very little beautiful city that I was very happy to visit. (Gaia 3 B)

DARUVAR

We liked the activities at school. There was a drama workshop where we had to understand the roles played by our companions. This taught us how to cope with language or cultural differences.

The Croatian language lesson was also creative and fun: it allowed us to learn the basics of the language but also to socialize with other students.

In Zagreb we visited the US Embassy. It made us reflect on cultural differences. Italian ambassadors are certainly more formal. It was also interesting to hear how members of the staff relate to the different countries they are working in. (Maura, 4 E)

DARUVAR
The visit to the Westin Hotel made us understand that in big structures many different types of jobs are necessary. We also visited the Thermal Hotel in Daruvar with two very enthusiastic members of the staff and this taught us that whatever job you do, you must be full of energy and enthusiasm.

Beyond work and study, this experience has brought us into contact with new realities and given us the opportunity to meet with people different from us. We had to adapt and develop skills that will be important for our life. (Lisa, 4 E)

SONDERBORG

During the visit, we did a lot of activities. At school we did very interesting team building activities and a workshop on networking which taught us how to use the Internet to find new job opportunities.

We visited LINAK which is an important factory that produces levers to raise and lower tables, beds, desks and so on.

A young apprentice accompanied our guide on our tour and we found out he was there for his school - work project. We learned that LINAK has hired a lot of  young people in Sonderborg and is in charge of their preparation for work, but is also involved in creating structures for social aggregations.

SONDERBORG

Very interesting was also the visit to SDU university, which is closely related to local companies to stimulate entrepreneurship and innovation, and the "Zero project" that targets the 50% reduction of CO2 by 2020 in Sonderborg, where they asked for our ideas on how to solve the problem and even to create a model. This stimulated our critical thinking and creativity.

The "djeeo game" we played at school with Gps phones, computers and maps taught us more about teamworking and was also great fun. (Emma, 3 B)

AANEKOSKI

We really liked everything. The visit to the National Theatre in Helsinki made us understand that you must work hard to make our workplace grow. We also understood that we need to take care of culture and art. The workshop “Being an entrepreneur” : We have learnt how to be creative in a work experience and how to think about something useful for everyone. We also understood that working with different people can help you to improve your ideas or even find better ones, and that it is very important to have a specific role in your work. (Dunilka, 5 C)

AANEKOSKI

In the visits to the University of Jyvaskyla and the presentation on intercultural awareness we understood there are many study opportunities abroad and that studying abroad makes you more flexible and able to overcome the problems which  cultural differences could create in your life and work. In the visit to Metsa factory we saw all the competences and skills discussed during the week. The attention to nature and the eclecticism of the workers were also important points of the visit. CONCLUSION

There are some differences between Italian schools and most European schools, but this project made us understand that there are many things we can do to improve our schools and create, spread and share culture and information all over the participating countries.

We have not been able to mention all the beautiful visits and the great hospitality of all the host families. We really enjoyed ourselves and learnt a lot too!

n the meeting we realized that there are different opinions among European students about the most important skills that a worker needs. Modigliani students think that leadership and negotiating are indispensable for a worker, while most students believe that the most important qualities are being able to work in a team and solve problems.
