Due to these jobs the slaves worked right be side the ship builders ,fisher men and also the lumber jacks.So there was not as many slaves as there were in the south. The Mayflower Compact was an early, successful attempt at government by the people and undoubtedly played a role in future colonists seeking permanent independence from British rule and shaping the nation that eventually became the United States of America."

the Mayflower compact was an agreement with the British and the Pilgrims when they were headed to  USA so they could have self-government.but when they got there it was kinda like the British didn't follow there promise that they made to the pilgrims.
