Classroom Morning Routine

Put backpacks away

Discipline

Student misbehavior will be managed though open circles and reflection about misbehavior.
Logical consequences will be used (i.e. a student draws on their desk with crayons, they're then expected to clean it up).
If needed, students will receive a behavior plan that will allow them to also self evaluate.

Brain Breaks

Students will be given regular breaks that allow them to move around while still learning (interactive dance, game, etc.)
Kinders will have extra recess to help manage behavior and keep students engaged.

Standard Rules

Be kind and respectful: Students are encouraged to treat each other with kindness and respect. Reminding them to use their words instead of physical actions.
Listen and follow directions: Teaching students the importance of listening and following instructions which will help create a structured and organized learning environment.
Share and take turns: Fostering a sense of sharing and cooperation among students. Encouraging them to take turns and share materials and toys.
Raise your hand: Teaching them to raise their hand when they have something to say or a question to ask. This helps create a respectful and equal classroom.
Clean up after yourself: Ask students to clean up their own messes and take care of the classroom materials. Teaching responsibility and respect for the learning environment.

Class Contract

Students and the teacher teacher come up with rules for the classroom at the start of the school year (represented by visuals and simple words/sentences)
Rules will be written and displayed in the classroom for students to see

Class meetings

During this meeting we will start by greeting the students then ask them to share something about their week that was important to them.

As the meeting comes to a close we will discuss what we have planned for the day and a cheerful message or interactive activity to encourage the students.
This can also be a good moment to discuss any concerns or questions as well.

Class Jobs

Students will have an opportunity to get a new job weekly where they will be able to contribute to our classroom community and gain fake money for fun Friday.

Jobs may consist of line leader, door holder, snack helper, clean up crew, paper passer, etc.

Stations

Create smooth transitions between activities by using visual cues, songs, or timers. This helps students understand when it's time to move to the next task without confusion.

Students will work as a team for certain tasks to work on collaboration skills

Leaving for the Day

At the end of the day, students will have a set routine for cleaning up materials and lining up at the end of the day.

Bathroom Routine

Students will be allowed to use the bathroom and drink water when needed. However, there will be very clear rules and expectations.

Students are to use the bathroom one at a time
Students will use the bathroom and come straight back to the classroom.

Walking in the Hallway

Teach the students how to line up quietly and walk in a straight line when moving around the school. This ensures safety and minimizes disruptions.

Redirection

In our classroom we Redirect and model appropriate behavior

Instead of focusing on negative behavior, redirect students towards positive alternatives. Use gentle reminders and model the behavior you want to see.

It is important to be patient and understanding with kindergarten students as they are still learning how to navigate the classroom environment.
