The temple was dedicated to Anu the god of the sky, Sumerian's principle deity, as they believed that gods descended to the earth in high places. People who followed Religion would come here to worship their god.</p>]]></description>

The temple was used as a religious center for the god Amun-Re. Today this is is the largest of these that are open for the public</p>]]></description>

She holds an open pyxis and in her left hand and a jewelry piece. The stele is used as a grave marker,this art relates to religion becuase it relfects the imprtance of relgious practuces like honoring the death.</p>]]></description>

Pietas were used a devotional images for prayer and religious interaction. The Virgin cradles him and Christ is depicted as a tired and an overall human wreck after he has been crucified, he has streams of blood gushing from wounds. The Virgin Mary and Christ is a huge symbol in many relgions.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Great Mosque Of Cordoba</p><p>Artist unknown</p><p>Date: 785-786 CE</p><p>Period/Culture: Umayyad</p><p>Location: Cordoba, Spain Materials: stone masonry</p><p>The Great Mosque of Cordoba is a spacious hypostyle hall adorned with mosaics, Quranic inscriptions, and vibrant colors on its interior.  It is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and located in the Spanish region of Andalusia. It serves as a testament to the enduring influence of the Umayyads in Cordoba. Originally a Roman temple, it was later converted into a church by the Visigoths in 572 CE.</p><p><br></p>]]></description>

The central panel depicts archangel Gabriel approaching Mary, who sits reading. Campin was a very successful painter with apprentices and assistants. The Virgin Mary is a very well-known Christian story which is why this piece connects to the theme of religion.</p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Calling of Saint Matthew</p><p>Artist: Caravaggio</p><p>Date: 1597-1601</p><p>Period/Culture: Italian Baroque</p><p>Location: Italy</p><p>Materials: oil on canvas</p><p>This painting was a staple for Carvagio as it showed a new form of lighting that many of the artists after his time followed. Light comes in from two sources creating a tenebroso effect. The painting depicts the story from the Gospel of Matthew. This fits into the theme of religion because it shows a saint in the work which many religions today believe in.</p>]]></description>
