Success - find an area where students will excel and encourage that. Positive comments can propel them toward success.

Also, by using the glossary you can identify key words that will lead you to the pages that will pretty much isolate the answer to your questions swiftly, minus the excessive information.

Another suggestion was to try to make whatever it is you are learning meaningful in your own life. It is more likely to be remembered this way. Both of these strategies can lead to a deeper, longer-lasting understanding of the material being taught.

Students can utilize the strategies listed to concentrate on their projects in class, especially if they are longer, multi-stepped projects. I would also incorporate the use of study groups in which students can brainstorm ideas for projects, research artists or art styles together, and provide each other constructive feedback on their art projects.

I read about solving math word problems and reading math books. One strategy for word problems involves a mnemonic to help students make sense of the problem and critique their own reasoning. I especially like that this method makes students consider if their answer is reasonable. I also liked the strategy for reading from a math textbook that encourages keeping a math vocabulary section in your notebook so students can learn precise language.

I think young people for some reason believe they are good at "multi-tasking" and can be texting, listening to music, using social media, etc. while they are studying. I think it's important to stress to them that must find a quiet place to study that is free from distractions and that cell phones anthem TV must be off while they study.

Finding a good place to study will help students identify a specific place where they are able to fully focus and concentrate on a task. Without this, there are many opportunities to get side-tracked, or even multi-tasking, which will not benefit the student in completing the task.

Studying is necessary for all students at some point in their academic careers. I always provide students with guidelines for how to study because most students don’t know how to study. I always recommend a comfortable and quiet place to study, free from distractions. When my 10th grade daughter studies, I have her put her phone in another room. I also recommend chunking the studying into smaller sessions instead of studying for hours the night before a test. I also provide students with different ways to study so they can choose what works best for them. For example: Flash cards, study groups, practice problems, rereading text and memorization strategies.

My daughter is part of a successful study group. One of the main reasons the group works so well is because all the members are motivated to do well. Each member has a specific role and all the members puts in the same amount of effort. The members are friends and sometimes may get off track but they have someone in the group whose job is to keep the group focused on the task at hand.
