I the merlion
A super awkward fish out of water
Perched on the edge of desperation
I did not ask for this half life
Half lion half fish 
Nothing in between but
Constantly vomiting
Queasy uneasy
All these tourists gawking every single day 
My marble mane a facade of the disgust underneath
I stare at them
All red necked skin unused to tropical weather 
Their sweat seeps through
Vanity perched on selfie sticks
I wished I had paws
And the volition of a cat
Slinking away into the skyline
Slipping below the water
Never to be found again

This is what you get for studying lit in uni
All fluff no substance 
So become tour guide is easier 

We only studied that Thumboo poem 
Something about how no one belongs where they go to
Sian lah, just stay here, smile, tell them where the toilet is,
Take them to top ten destinations 
But no one will remember the history
