1. Harper Lee is related Robert E. Lee, a confederate general. This is the complete opposite of her point of view, as the book is written about racism's issues. 
2. She grew up in Alabama, and lived in a generally racist area. Her father defended two black men, and they lost, which resulted in the men's death. This racial injustice background influenced the book. 
3. Growing up, she was very focused in school and specifically loved English literature.
