This is a brief look at one of the worlds greatest commanders, General John J. Pershing. A graduate from West Point in 1886. While serving in many campaigns, it was the Spanish American War that placed Pershing on the path towards a rapid promotion which later led him to becoming the General of the Armies on September 1, 1919 (YouTube, 2018). For someone whom really didn't really plan to make a career out of the military sure made a huge stamp during WWI. His attention to detail, bearing and rigidness is what would later shape the path of leadership in both WWI and WWII.

In today's military it is both just as important for leaders to be great managers as they are great leaders. General John J. Pershing was just that. He put the mission over everything which is the model the military follows today. Also, his firmness is and important trait that is important to follow today. As a weak leader is not followed by many and this could lead to deaths on the battlefield. He is an example of how a leader should follow the rules of government and politics during wartime.

In my eyes, General Pershing was no doubt a great leader and commander. Some of the key improvements of military training and motivation he showed during some of the worst times in history proves he belongs in the category of "great Commanders." Like every human being, there is always room for improvement. His loss of his family didn't help matters while leading his soldiers which caused a bit of retaliation on his soldiers. But when it was all said and done, General Pershing goes down in history for his many positives he set forth for future leaders all over the world.
