-Increased dramatically in the last 50 years due to a rising income of people in the UK.

-In 1950, there was 2.3 million UK cars on the road, however in in 2002, there was over 25.5 million private cars in the UK.

-This therefore increases domestic tourism because more people have access to transportation which therefore increases the potential for more domestic tourists.

Increasing Leisure Time

-Leisure time is increasing. This is due to working days being cut shorter than in the past. In addition to this, the 'norm' is to only work 5 days a week, whereas in the past it was to work 6.

-In addition, bank holidays and more holiday days off have become easier to access therefore increasing the leisure time.

-Another reason as to why there is an increase in leisure time, is due to an advance in technology. For examples, dishwashers have made it quicker and easier to do the washing up for many people world wide.

-Leisure time is beneficial to both businesses and the individual. Whether it be home-based leisure, arts and entertainment, sport and physical recreation, countryside recreation etc. people will be benefiting.

Increase In Disposable Income

-Disposable income is the money after taxation and state benefit additions.

-The amount of disposable income determines the consumption and saving of individuals. Therefore, the more disposable income, the more consumption and the more consumption the more aggregate demand which therefore will boost economic growth.

-In terms of the travel industry, an increase in disposable income for people worldwide is beneficial. This is because more people will be spending more money and a common area which people spend money in is the travel industry. This would therefore mean that there may be a lot more inbound visitors. This therefore means that with more inbound visitors, there will be more money being put into our economy,

Impact Of The National Economy

-The national economy impacts the travel industry. This is because without a strong economy, there will be less money in the circular flow of income. This will therefore drive down into a recession which will mean that there will be less disposable income per capita. Less disposable income has the effect that less people will be travelling thus impacting countries which rely heavily on the tourism industry,
