In our second day of the longest trip of our lives, we went to the Route of Flowers. Between green places and coffee plantations we find the famous Route of Flowers in El Salvador. Although the proximity between the five living villages of the Route, they are in two different departments, Sonsonate and Achuachapán

We started from San Salvador, so Nahuizalco was our first stop in our itinerary. (aitinenary) Nahuizalco is one of the most important indigenous centers in the entire country. Crafts, souvenirs and all kinds of food were waiting for us around the main square and the Nahuizalco market. In fact, this place is known nationally for its food, crafts and furniture made with wood near the town, that's why actually it is a beautiful place to walk aimless.

Then, we made a technical stop in Salcoatitán, while that, we took the opportunity to visit a Ceiba tree with more than five centuries of history. After that, we continue our road trip, we made a stop to visit Juayua. Since the beginning of centuries, this place hosts numerous gastronomical festivals and that's why in Juayua we took the opportunity to drink atole and eat some pupusas to gain strength on this intense day. The next stop was Apaneca, due to the lack of interest, we only stop at its main temple.

And finally, we went to the best known town on the Route of Flowers, Concepción de Ataco. This place is know for it's murals. They are present in the main streets of the town giving color and learning through art. The most common are those that represent coffee but today we can find multiple murals. After exploring the whole place, we looked for a place to stay and sleep the rest of the night. We stayed at Casa Degraciela Boutique Hotel, it is an accommodation of colonial architecture. After a quite long day, we were finally able to get some sleep for the next trip, Monseñor Romero's Route.

After that, we continue the rout, and then we went to a place called “Centro Monseñor Romero” in that place there are Monsignor Romero’s belongings, for example there are shirts, and shoes he used to use to visit communities in all the country. And you can see what a humble person he was despite being so influential and recognized throughout the country.

And now I’m going to explain my favorite place of all the rout, that was the “Catedral Metropolitana de San Salvador” it is a huge church located in San Salvador, in fact it is one of the most amazing places I have ever visited. The church has a big window with different colors, and the ceiling is round and quite high, people explain us that Monsignor Romero it was buried there. And people around the country come to visit the grave. When we there, I was thinking about the importance this man had in the 80’ and how is “legacy” continue. 

Also we visited a place called “Museo de la Palabra y la Imagen”

This place focuses on the love he had for photography, because there are a lot of photographs showing his life.

And now I am going to tell what was the most shocking place we visited in the tour, it is called “Hospital DivinaProvidencia” it is located in San Salvador, and I think it was the most shocking place because Monsignor Romero was killed there, and you can imagine the horrible moment that was lived by the people who were in the church that day. The history say he was stand up in the middle of the church in front of the congregation, and he was preaching when he was hit by a sniper bullet, that came from a red car located in front of the church door, while the car ran away, the congregation was in panic, many people tried to save his life but this was in vain, in a few minutes he had died. And I was there watching and imagining that I was there that day.

To finish the tour, we were to a statue in the name of the monsignor, and this was located in front of a famous place in San Salvador called “Plazas las Americas” or “El DivinoSalvador del Mundo” this statue was built thanks to the Chacon sisters. Elvira and Leonor were Monsignor Romero’s close friends, they have a lot of things from Monsignor Romero, like shirts, shoes, and they paid for the statue to be made in memory of their dear friend.

This tour was incredible because I can learn about Monsignor Romero and the same time I was learning about important moments in El Salvador’s history.
