I wanted to share a bit about my background and cultural values, especially in the context of trade. I come from a province where trade, particularly in agricultural products, plays a significant role in our daily lives.

In my hometown, I am involved in trading rice with my auntie. This has been a tradition in our family for generations, and it not only sustains us but also strengthens our familial bonds. Rice, being a staple in our diet, holds great importance, and the trade is not just a transaction but a means of supporting one another.

I find beauty in the simplicity and authenticity of these trade practices. It's not just about the exchange of goods; it's about the connections and relationships that are built through these transactions. The value of trust and community is deeply embedded in our trade practices, and I carry these principles with me wherever I go.

VELANDRIA, DAISY L.

TIME ORIENTATION

Time orientation greatly influences entrepreneurial attitudes and behaviors. In cultures with a short-term orientation, there may be a focus on immediate gains and quick returns on investment, leading to more risk-taking and aggressive business strategies. Conversely, in cultures with a long-term orientation, entrepreneurs may prioritize sustainable growth and building enduring relationships, resulting in more cautious and strategic decision-making.

Reflecting on my own cultural values, I see both alignment and differences with these entrepreneurial values. Coming from a culture that values long-term relationships and stability, I can relate to the importance of sustainable growth and building trust with stakeholders. However, I also recognize the influence of a globalized, fast-paced world, which sometimes pressures individuals to prioritize short-term gains over long-term sustainability. Balancing these cultural values with entrepreneurial goals requires adaptability and mindfulness to ensure ethical and responsible business practices while still pursuing innovation and growth.

Cultural values play a significant role in shaping entrepreneurial behavior, particularly in relation to competition. In cultures that prioritize individualism and competitiveness, entrepreneurs may be more inclined to pursue aggressive strategies to outperform rivals and dominate markets. Conversely, in cultures that value cooperation and harmony, entrepreneurs may prioritize collaboration over competition, seeking win-win outcomes and fostering partnerships with competitors. Additionally, cultural attitudes towards risk-taking and failure can influence entrepreneurs' willingness to engage in competitive activities, with risk-tolerant cultures often fostering a more aggressive approach to competition. Overall, understanding cultural values is essential for entrepreneurs to navigate competitive landscapes effectively and adapt their strategies to align with cultural norms and expectations.

An aspect of cultural values that influences entrepreneurial attitudes and behaviour is the perception of "failure". In cultures where failure is stigmatized or seen as a personal shortcoming, people may be less inclined to take entrepreneurial risks or engage in innovative ventures. On the other hand, in cultures where failure is seen as a natural part of learning and an opportunity for growth, people may want to take more risks and explore entrepreneurship.

Such different attitudes toward failure can significantly affect people's willingness to engage in entrepreneurship and resilience in the face of adversity..
