This was called the Tea Act of 1773. The Americans were smuggling tea. Then British lowered the price of the British tea so the Americans would pay the tax. The East India Company sold the tea. Also, in 1772 the company had 18 million pounds of unsold tea. Then, in 1773 the British Parliament passed the Tea Act to save the company. The Tea Act was the British's way of making the American Colonists pay the tea tax.

Samuel Adams was an American patriot. Also he organized Boston's Sons of Liberty. They were responsible for the Boston Tea Party. On 1793 Adams Became the governor of Massachusetts. Adams thought that the Americans should have their own opinion on what they think is important. Adams also told them to try to change unfair laws. After the British passed the Tea Act of 1773 he found out the three tea ships were going to Boston. Adams thought that if the Americans paid the tax on the British tea, then the British had a right to tax them. Adam wrote a letter to Thomas Hutchinson, the governor of Massachusetts saying that the Tea Act was very unfair.

Samuel Adams told people to protest for the agents to quit in other ports along the Atlantic Ocean. American colonists had forced the agents to quit. The tea shipments were either stored away or returned to England. Adams wanted the agents to quit in front of a crowd. If the agents did quit in front of the crowd then that would show that the Americans had power over them. He put the posters up saying come watch the agents quit. The agents never came. He then spent weeks making speeches against the British government. The American women came together to agree not to drink British tea.
