This sentence creates the imagery of a storm brewing, problems arising, people learning their lesson through pain and suffering.

The story teller couldn't wake up happy, couldn't find joy alone.

In the poem "Alone" by Edgar Allan Poe he states " As from childhood's hour I have not been as others were- I have not seen as others saw." This makes the tone of the poem depressing considering Edgar Allan Poe thinks he was born different from everyone else, and is meant to be alone. This helps push Edgar Allen Poe's point that he was meant to be alone and was different from birth.

It means someone that is uncaring or without feelings.

when Maya Angelou continues repeating the lines, "That nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone."

she uses it to help people to remember in all that she is says the point is being alone doesn't help in life. It is like a plea for people to reach out to others because when we are for each other we can make it through anything.
