         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Cooperative Learning Strategy where two students work to read an assigned text. <br><strong>Advantages:</strong><br>-Students give feedback to their partner as a way to monitor comprehension.<br>-Teachers get to circulate the classroom and observe all students. <br>-Learn decoding skills by offering positive feedback.<br><strong>Disadvantages:</strong><br>-Students may not be staying on task<br>-Gifted students may see this as boring<br><strong>Scaffold for ELLS:</strong><br>-The teacher can use this to pair a ELL student with a non-ELL student to support language develop for the ELL.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Instructional activity where students in small groups have group discussions using the strategies: summarizing, question generating, clarifying, and predicting. In the small groups, one student starts as "the teacher" and leads the discussion. <br><strong>Advantages:</strong><br>-Students think about their own thought process during reading.<br>-Students learn to monitor their comprehension<br>-Students learn to ask questions during reading to help comprehend the text.<br><strong>Disadvantages: </strong><br>-One student may not put in effort causing the group to not be as active. <br>-Slow learners may not be able to keep up with reading and having a job. <br><strong>Scaffold for ELLs:</strong><br>-When putting the students into groups have ELLs be in groups with students that are advanced in reading skills. Making the ELL have someone to help and support their language development.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Comprehension strategy used to help students navigate reading material, helping them comprehend the main points of the reading and understand the structure of the text.<br><strong>Advantages:</strong><br>-For a variety of reading material and levels.<br>-Guides students through their new text<br>-Readers learn to think actively making a purpose for reading.<br><strong>Disadvantages: </strong><br>-Some questions may be too difficult for some students. <br>-Students can struggle with not having the answers word for word in the text. <br><strong>Scaffold for ELLs:</strong><br>-Have the reading assignment available in a recording or someone who is available to read it out loud so that ELLs can comprehend the spoken speech.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

The student not reading will give feedback. <br><strong>Advantages: </strong><br>-Students develop their reading comprehension skills<br>-Teachers can use this to monitor students comprehension skills. <br><strong>Disadvantages: <br></strong>-Students may not be able to pull out the main ideas alone, resulting in them not participating correctly. <br>-If the teacher is not watching over carefully, students can get off topic<br><strong>Scaffold for ELLs:</strong><br>-Pair two students together, an ELL and advanced student, have them work together and write out the main points of the reading together.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Comprehension strategy that is a visual organizer used to enrich students understanding of topics and engage students by asking questions. <br><strong>Advantages: </strong><br>-Students learn how to organize new information <br>-Students learn how to make connections that are meaningful between. <br>-Concept Maps are useful in any content area and are very easy to put together. <br><strong>Disadvantages:</strong><br>-Not very challenging for some students<br>-Can be overused in the classroom <br><strong>Scaffold for ELLs:</strong><br>-This method can help ELLs learn vocabulary words explicitly as well as simple words. The teacher can use this as a visual and oral way to teach vocabulary to support the ELLs language development.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Students must distance or step back&nbsp; from the piece of writing and critically evaluate it. <br><strong>Advantages: <br></strong>-Students learn a valuable part of the writing process.<br>-Students get to reflect on their work.&nbsp;<br>-A way to learn critical thinking, students must make sure their message matches their goal of the writing.&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Disadvantages:&nbsp;</strong></div><div>-Over used in the classroom. <br>-Most students only learn this procedurally and not conceptually. <br><strong>Scaffold for ELLs:</strong><br>-Have the ELLs learn to revise a simple sentence and work them up to a small paragraph. Making it easier for them to learn rather than overwhelm with a whole passage. While they do this, you can also assign a supportive peer to assist them during the peer revision time.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

The groups must also collaborate with other groups, they will verbally say their lists to each other.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
