1. What have you learnt from the workshop by TLC?
- I have learnt that story telling is a wonderful way to encourage creativity amongst people and children. Some children may not be able to share their story through words but are able to articulate with their actions.

2. What is an activity you wish to try out with your class? Conduct the selected activity with your class. Film a short 1-2 minute video. Feel free to make modifications to suit your children's abilities. You may upload the video to google drive and share the link here.
- I would love to try the “what if” prompt with the children as this gives them an outline of the story but also provides the children with the freedom to think of their own ending.

3. Share one feedback for Elaine and her team from TLC.
- Love the energy, a real eye opener for a simple activity we do basically every day. 10/10 would join the session again if I had the chance :)

1. The session was an eye opening experience which made me realise that children can be active participants during storytelling sessions unlike the norm where teachers are the ones reading the story and children are expected to sit obediently and listen.

2. As the children are still new, I decided to choose a story which had a phrase that was repetitive throughout the story. This only required children to pay attention to the specific phrase and react when they hear it. For this story, children had to react when they heard “That’s enough” in the story. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1m40EvZAASt2ZWRggRBZMDDPgW1oO7ZXR/view?usp=drivesdk

3. The various strategies were great pointers that I would like to implement in class as and when applicable. Thank you for the experience!

1. I learnt that we can engage children in many ways without using a storybook! There's picture talk using key pictures, telling our own personal story (like show and tell), and getting children to think out of the box and be creative by asking them 'what if...'

2. I wanted to try not using any phsyical book so I used an audio book of a familiar story to the children 'We're going on a bear hunt'. I then asked them what they would do if the they saw a bear in their room and a few of the children screamed to act out their response. Ayaan also said he would faster run away!
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OI_OuBLZwj7Smq2_9mE3B_gfTZmZh0ER/view?usp=drivesdk

3. I really liked how it was engaging from the start to end and how everyone had a part to play in all the activities. I would also like it if we could get a summary of the various strategies taught so that we can refer to it and use it during our lessons/storytelling time! Thank you! (:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c6-q4vaP8I2rfpSrr49mEl2UfEi1EkPu/view?usp=share_link

The TLC workshop was short but meaningful and fun in my opinion. I have gained more confidence in engaging children in storytelling as they shared strategies to do without using a book. As a recommendation, I hope they would give a power point file or a information sheet about the strategies they had taught for my future use in the class. Other than that, it was fun and engaging for me. I really had fun!

The Five Little Monkeys (Song/Rhyme book)
1. The TLC session was surprisingly fun and full of learning to learn from and new strategies useful for the educators in planning and implementing the storytelling activities with the children.
2. At first, choosing the appropriate book suited for 18mos old children was a challenged for me. I couldn't decide which book to read with them. So what I did was to observe their interest and likes. I found out they are into movements and they like the song "Five little monkeys" so I looked for the book for them. At first, I tried to read out aloud the story and get children to listen to me. Then, I changed them into the song and movement "Five Little monkeys" with some props. Lastly, I let them explored the materials and encourage them to repeat the keywords- "jump", "bed", "hello", "monkeys", and "mama". Children were actively engaged and they have awareness of how the phones are used, they associate the word "jump" into the movements of "jump" and "fall". In short some children are able to associate some words into actions.
3. The flow of the session was greatly planned and the ideas and strategies being shared are really helpful. Hoping for more of this workshop in the future.

1. Through the workshop by TLC, I learnt that there are many tools we can use to tell a story other than physical props and costumes. Our body gestures, facial expressions and voice intonations can communicate different aspects of the setting and mood of the story.

2. I wanted to try using my gestures, expressions and voice to tell a story. Thus I used the song/story 'We're going on a bear hunt' to do so. I focused on portraying the moods of various parts of the story, such as using a stable, upbeat tone to portray the curiosity at the start of the adventure, a high-pitched and unstable tone to portray fear as we 'went' in the cave, and fast gestures to portray panic as we 'ran away' from the bear.

3. The workshop was very well-planned with a good range and progression of activities. The facilitators also played a big part in creating a safe space for us to learn in.

1. From the workshop, I learnt that we can be creative in telling a story. We can use any props or body language to tell a story.

2. I would like to try using body language to express ideas. In the activity that I conducted with my children, I encouraged them to show the movement of sea animals through their body language.

3. I love the session as it is very engaging. It will be great if they share some activities that is suitable for the younger age group.

1.What is something that you learnt from the workshop?
I learnt about the possibility of telling a story without the use of a physical book or any props and that our body, voice, gestures, tone, facial expressions and movements are all tools to convey a story.

2. I wanted to try to tell a story using only my body, actions and voice. I felt that it was quite a refreshing concept compared to the usual way of storytelling which is for everyone to be seated with their eyes on the teacher and the book. I decided to do a storytelling session based on the book, "brown bear, brown bear". I focused on using my voice and facial expressions to portray how the animals felt. I also used my body to show the different actions that the animals were doing. I then encouraged the children to follow along to the actions and move around. I gave them the opportunity to express how they would like to move around/their body parts. (Eg. Asking them how does a bird fly before showing them my perception of how a bird flies). It was a joyful experience.

3. I really love how creative and engaging the activities were. The whole workshop was very well-planned and the transition from one activity to another was smooth. It was not only eye-opening but also fun, I enjoyed it a lot!

1. I learnt that effective storytelling does not always need props and books, because the most important thing we need to make the story interesting and captivating for the listeners is your voice modulation, body movements, your awareness of your participants’ interest, confidence of the storyteller and the storyteller internalizing the character.

2. I want a story that is based on what sparks their interest. They are fond of a story which involves the participants well. With this, I planned a story that I created based on what I think will suit my playgroup children’s abilities, needs, wants and interests.

3. The team did a great job! I must say that I am impressed with how they shared strategies, techniques and approaches about how to deliver a storytelling session without the use of props and books, but instead just the storyteller himself and the participants.

I learnt about different strategies to engage children in storytelling by dramatisation, the creative process of changing the story as a group and children being active participants in storytelling.

2. In this short video, I introduced the Hungry Caterpillar puppet to the children and invited them to find the items in the box to feed it. While the children were actively looking for different items to feed, they learnt that the caterpillar would reject non-edible objects (eg. squishy balls) and eats only fruits (they learnt the many different names too!).

3. The strategies are definitely eye-opening and useful for the classroom. I like how they allow everyone to be actively involved in the process, while having fun too. I would love to learn more strategies for the 0-3 age group.

1. I have learned that there are several strategies I could try in order to tell stories and that storytelling doesn’t have to be one way.

2. I tried out storytelling through drmatisation. At first, I was not sure that the children are going to follow me and my actions. It took three-four storytelling through dramatisation repetition of the same story before I could encourage them fully and ensure their participation. It was meaningful for me when I saw that they can re-tell the story through actions or by “filling in the blanks” every time I stop and let them say the missing lines.

3. Thank you TLC for the inspiration and encouragement!
