The influential work Sun-Tzu had written was The Art of War. The Art of War is about knowing when to fight and when not to fight. This includes knowing the enemy and oneself to win the battle. Always being prepared is another key to victory. This book is useful to us today because we may not have warfare but we do have smaller battles within yourself and around us.

The issue with his history is most of the records were destroyed by the Qin dynasty which took aver after the Zhou dynasty. There are also scholars who say that there are inaccuracies in The Art of War. The time period of battles written vs actually happening causes issues. The last issue with Sun-Tzu is if he was such a great general, why wasn’t there more written about him?

My take on The Art of War

The work written by Sun Tzu is a philosophical commentary on how to be a good general. This is helpful to us in our time because we can take it as understanding how to be a leader. Understanding yourself and your competition can help inspire and create inspiration within yourself. I believe this is essential reading for anyone on how to understand themselves. Having full confidence and knowing your strengths and weaknesses can be useful in any situation.

The Art of War by Sun Tzu is not quite a book but a written set of tenants for someone to follow. This is based on Sun Tzu's experiences as a leader in battle. This book was issued to most soldiers in the Chinese armies.
