What is the purpose of the unit?

To find something that motivates Chilean students to read English literature.
What is my question or initial challenge for this unit?

Will a good story be enough to motivate students?
My initial question is: Will we write a story?
From my perspective, a good book is enough to move people. Like for example famous sagas like Harry Potter

Why do I believe this challenge or question is relevant?

I think this unit is relevant because it’s important to read, especially in your second lenguaje so you can practice it. Reading Can help you to improve your vocabulary, for example.

What do I think I will learn or discover in this unit?

I think in this unit I will learn various narrative elements that will help me write a good story or short story.

How can I gather information to solve the main problem of the unit? Which sources Can I rely on and why?

I believe that by staying by making a survey of the problematic to students from the school you can gather some information. Reliable sources on this unit can be governmental or educational websites (.edu) that talk about the matter. Those types of sources have confirmed official information.

'What are my hypothesis regarding the problem question taking into consideration the description of the problem?

In my opinion, I think Chilean students are not interested in reading English books for mainly two reasons:

a) They don’t know enough English to actually comprehend what they’re reading about, so they get uninterested on reading they books in general.

b) Reading at school is very often perceived as a “burden” because at the end, you’re doing it for a grade, when in fact, reading should be something you enjoy.

How am I progressing in my learning process?
Engaging in this activity significantly improved my reading comprehension skills. Initially, I found the text quite challenging to comprehend, but by working on it, I was able to enhance my ability to process and understand it more effectively.
How does this evidence show my progress in this unit?
This shows my improvement because I was able to complete the worksheet that asked me to demonstrate the elements we learned but adapted to this story, such as literary devices.
What difficulties have I encountered by doing this activity?
The most difficult part for me was finding the purpose of the story, because for that, as a group we had to do some background research on the time when Lovecraft was writing the story.
What have I learnt of myself?
I've come to realize that, despite the fact that I thought the author's writing was great, I didn't particularly enjoy the concept of this story and found it boring.

How am I progressing in my learning process?
This assignment helped me improve my ability to detect literary devices in a variety of texts. It specifically asked me to identify at least four literary devices. This practice not only improved my ability to identify and locate these devices, but it also provided me with a greater understanding of their function and impact on the overall meaning of the text.
How does this evidence show my progress in this unit?
By analyzing and describing the author's use of imagery in the short tale, I was able to demonstrate my comprehension of the concepts used throughout this unit.
What difficulties have I encountered by doing this activity?
Finding the main idea of the story was the most challenging part for me because that has always been a weakness of mine when it comes of reading comprehension.
What have I learnt of myself?
I discovered that I want to be able to write stories as well as Edgar Allan Poe does, creating the same feelings of terror he does.

How am I progressing in my learning process?
I had never even heard of a text commentary before, so learning what one was and how to make one helped me advance in my goal to increase my knowledge.
How does this evidence show my progress in this unit?
This activity demonstrates my significant progress in this course by clearly displaying my ability to write a informative text commentary, as said in class. This work allowed me to demonstrate my ability to analyze given short story while successfully putting the elements it needs to have.
What difficulties have I encountered by doing this activity?
The most difficult component of this task was figuring out how to organize the text commentary, including what to place first and other considerations.
What have I learnt of myself?
I learned that reading a text commentary about a story will be more helpful than simply looking up the summary since, as I learned, text commentary not only provides plot parts but also other narrative elements, allowing you to better appreciate the tale.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/10s9ARtHW-cgwCWItBfGTYN2EmK9MRsYkf0vUoh8UCKg/edit
