When students have shown that they can independently use knowledge to carry out the process of the new skill in class, teachers then can assign practice tasks for the students to complete outside of class. This helps increase students' speed, fluency, and accuracy in performing the skill.

Technology use:
Students can record themselves to help improve their fluency. To do this, they can use digital tools such as their smart phones or they can use screen casting software such as Jing, ScreenChomp, or TouchCast to create a screencasts that shows the students explaining how they solved the problems. Students can then share their videos on a class website or Youtube and comment on each others videos.

Homework is used to push students to use higher-order thinking skills to help develop their understanding of the content. Its important teachers confirm that the students are well-versed in the content before assigning homework as an independent practice.

Technology use:
Teachers can assign online scavenger hunts that have the students explore, compare and contrast, classify, or evaluate the knew content by watching content related videos, images, or tutorials. A website that is good for this is the TED talks or Khan Academy.
