Our kind & industrious hosts. Transplanted from NYC to the Oregon Wilderness. It took time to adjust my picture of Warren. It's been over 20 years since I saw him in his homeland (NYC). This is a very different life, to state the obvious. It seems we have more in common now with our studies of soil and plants. Also it's been lovely to spend time with Shoko! I greatly admire her artistic abilities.

Warren Sculpts the Land

Warren had an excavator to help move earth around his house and barn. He also had them dig a pond and a path for the natural stream (two streams run through the land -- wow!). Then he got to work with the earth, rock and cedar. And there's potential for hydro-power.
Pretty cool.

Very wisely, the gardens were built as terraces so work is chest-high. No bending over needed. Notice the water tank up on the hill.
Smart planning.
The second picture is a strawberry patch under protection from birds & bunnies. They've got blueberry bushes under the arbor. The arbor holds the netting in place. In the larger picture this is the "orchard". Apple, persimmon, peaches and more. A big fence surrounds to keep the deer out.

Our goal was to hike to Blue Hole, however the access was off limits, possibly due to landslide (don't know). So we hiked up from Sahalie & Koosah Falls, parallel to Rt.126. The falls left the water flowing with a Caribbean blue hue. Clear Lake was indeed clear and very cold; with boaters and hikers, yet not over-run.
Really beautiful.
