1) Although not necessary Orwellian language does give one an advantage in politics. Mainly due to the ability to appeal for the masses require good communicating. And with that language becomes a tool for politicians to utilize and be selective or spin on something with their own agenda in mind. A "will" "now" is better than "could" "later" to the ears. These empty promises can lead to biases and people would vote for that candidate.

Some information may have to be covered to prevent controversies that lead to chaos when leaked. Sometimes, it may suggest that those concealing the truth are up to no good. Because the information hidden for a person with more power (e.g., a politician, millionaire, etc.) may be used to maintain their reputation even though they may have done something unacceptable to society as if they are running from their consequences and responsibilities.

Sometimes powerful people conceal the truth from people because it doesn't align with what he or she thinks or believes in. Thus, they intend to make other people believe in what they believe in and think in a way they think. In the second sub-question, I think that sometimes the powerful people conceal the truth from people, thinking that it might not be best if the truth was revealed. Their intention might be good, however, because people perceive things differently, the people might think their intention is bad. - Mindy

Firstly, it really depends on how "truth" is defined. If "truth" is defined as this deep secret horrible truth of this man with power. It would be necessary for those with power to conceal the truth, because it is human nature that a reputation takes billions of years to build but five seconds to destroy and another trillion years to repair. Once you have power, it is almost or completely inevitable for them to conceal their truth and protect their reputation. (I'm sorry this is how human works) And yes, when they are concealing the "truth", it is considered not moral and "not good". This is because humans have always preferred oneself over a group of people or perhaps everything, we've only started being kind to each other in the past few thousands years and yet finding a nice guy is quite rare. So this all comes to the dark human nature that we have and all of us have the tendency to corrupt power when we have them.

Q2. It depends on what information the person or people in power are controlling; There are some lists of information that are essential to share with the community while others can be concealed for the sake of the community. As the person in power, you have the responsibility of informing the people of your community when there is something important that is needed to be shared.

2) Although a lot of the time concealing the truth from the people is a sign of the government doing fishy things, it is most of the time necessary to conceal the truth in my opinion. I feel like this is especially relevant with the internet. Sometimes people do not know what to do with the information they are given, and many times spread information that is false. With social media, small mistakes can be faced with heavy backlash, and a simple decision can spark huge controversies. Even though I agree that many times politicians conceal the truth of corruption and stuff, politicians do need to conceal the truth to prevent chaos and to prevent unprofessional opinions from interfering with important decisions.

Sometimes to conceal the truth is better because it can distort the truth whether it is in a negative or a positive way. However, once it's done the first time and it works to get an intended response, it's hard to draw the line when to stop. Truth can be suppressed sometimes but it cannot be hidden forever. It isn't definitive that people who have power to conceal the truth from people denote that they are up to no good. Anyone can suppress the truth for any reason, even if it's good. One of the biggest drawbacks from concealing the truth is diminishing trust and integrity, which are both very key factors to hold the power to even conceal truth in the first place.

1. Yes. The language you use is a big determining factor to who you are. Changing meanings of words or creating slangs can change your audience's perceptions on who you are. For example, someone can attract a younger audience by using slangs. Taking certain words back such 'gay' which once meant happy but now means homosexual to describe their love.

Personally, I believe that concealing the truth on some prices of information is appropriate. With social media and "freedom of speech" being a right that oh so many Americans claim, its the ideology that most people condemn censorship. But, when done right on certain data points, people can sleep at night. Yes if someone's is purposely concealing the truth they might be doing bad deeds, but depending on the context I believe that concealing the truth could be optimal for society to carry on.
