Tom could never feel love because his mother Merope Gaunt used an imperius charm on Tom Riddle Sr. When Tom was born he was sent to a Orphanage with only Muggles, but he noticed he could do different things than other people and even talk to snakes. He was the heir of Slytherin. When he turned 11 Albus Dumbledore went to him and told him he was a wizard. Tom was a very curious child, wanting to know the meaning of everything therefore he would want to know dark magic too. When he went to Hogwarts, even before the sorting hat touched his head he was put in Slytherin. He was favoured by the potions professor Horace Slughorn, who would make the biggest mistake of his life. In his 5th year, he would go to Slughorn and ask about a Horcrux. Slughorn told him that to make a horcrux you have to murder in order to put a piece of your soul in that object. Therefore you will be immortal.
