Doodle: All children have access to Doodle Maths, English, Spelling and Tables. Daily practice on Doodle will be greatly beneficial to your child's learning and progress.

We'll be checking in with children daily to help bolster their motivation and special recognition will be given to children who go above and beyond.

Children now have access to Times Tables Rockstars. We would like children to access the site for a minimum of 20 minutes each week.

We will be using our newly acquired knowledge to write Leon's secret diary about what really happened in 'the place between', including the conversation between Leon and the boy.

Later in the term, we will be studying 'Zeraffa Giraffa' by Diane Hoffmeyer. In this we will be learning to write a persuasive guide for visiting Zeraffa at the 'Jarden de Plantes' in Paris.

We will be developing the following skills:

• Build an increasing range of sentence structures

• In narratives, create settings, characters and pot

• In non-narrative material, use simple organisational devices including headings and sub-headings to aid presentation

• Understand the grammatical difference between plural and possessive 's'

In Autumn 2, we will be focusing on the non-fiction book 'Illustrated Atlas of Britain and Ireland' by Struan Reid and Megan Cullis.

Within our sessions, we will be:

• Retrieving and recording information

• Identifying how language, structure and presentation contribute to meaning

• Use dictionaries to understand words within the text

• Identifying main ideas drawn from more than one paragraph and summarise

• how to count to 10 in French.

• how to read, write, say and recognise 10 colours in French

• learn 7 modes of transport (nouns and definite articles/determiners)

This term we will be learning about Ancient Civilisations from across the world. We'll be finding out about Ancient Sumer, the World's first emperor and Ancient Egypt. During our learning of Ancient Egypt, we will be looking at:

• Key figures such as Rameses II

• Their belief in regards to the afterlife

• Daily life

We will be linking all elements covered to our previous learning in past years.

Our second science unit will be Sound. Children will learn how sounds are made when something vibrates, and how to change the amplitude and pitch of sounds.

In lessons we will developing skills in:

-Identifying the physical geographical features of areas around the world and understanding its importance.

-Identify the positions and significance of latitude, longitude, the Equator and Northern/Southern Hemispheres.

We will then create artwork inspired by the school buildings in a celebration of our school and the patterns and details of our lovely old building.

Artist Anna Clark will be working with the children to create mixed media pieces of the school - starting with sketches and photographs, then using collage, print and painting.

We will also create some focused tonal studies of Egyptian face masks.

Each Monday, children will receive a paper copy of the spelling list to bring home, and a spelling assignment will be set on Doodle. This term, we will focus on consolidating tricky and high-frequency words from KS1, homophones, rules for adding suffixes, irregular past tense verbs, superlatives, and vocabulary from our class texts 'Leon and the Place Between' and 'Egyptian Cinderella'.

Pupils who are continuing their work on our phonics scheme 'Read, Write Inc.' will have weekly phonic-based spelling tests, and Doodle assignments will be based on these.
