The Raven:
A Christmas Carol (2009) - IMDb :https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1067106/

After reading The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe it made me think of the movie The Batman(2022). Throughout the Raven Poe talks about the loss of his love Lenore. Ravens are known to symbolize a connotation of death. Pos in the text seems to be startled and lost because of his loved one being gone and not with him any longer. In The Batman movie Bruce Wayne at a very young age lost both of his parents and fights the agony and pain of losing his parents every day. In the poem, Poe refers to the phrase “nevermore” as a reference to his loss of his Lenore. In Batman, he refers to “vengeance” as something he will obtain and reminds him of the loss of his parents and why he does what he does every day. The raven throughout the poem mocks Poe and reminds him of his lost love and tends to anger and cause a bunch of emotions to overcome him. He soon realizes that the raven isn't real and just symbolizes the grief that he faces in her absence. In Batman, Bryce Wayne goes out every night fighting crime trying to do right by a city that did his parents so wrong thinking that one day he will find the person who killed his parents and left him empty he never finds the killer but protects the city reminds him of his parents and he wants to be the someone that couldn't have stopped his parents from dying that night. Both the Raven and The Batman show gothic tropes and are shown through the grievances of losing someone they loved.

Song of Myself Section 49:
The Batman (2022): https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1877830/

After reading Song of Myself Section 49 by Whitman I choose to compare it to A Christmas Carol(2009). Both of these pieces share a common theme of rebirth and death and how they play a role in people's lives and how a person is affected by it. In the poem, Whitman says “And as to you Life I reckon you are the leavings of many deaths,(No doubt I have died myself ten thousand times before.)” This tells the reader that the author believes in death but a person does not have to “literally” die to become aware of certain things and through these things change and become better because of it. In the movie, A Christmas Carol Ebenezer Scrooge is grumpy and doesn't find joy in life and especially not on Christmas. Throughout the movie, Scrooge comes into contact with three ghosts that take him on a journey through his past, present, and future hoping that it will change him as a person. This ghost ends up changing his perspective on life and brought joy to him when he saw the good that life had to offer him and he changed. With his journey with the ghost, it was as if he was dead because he was looking at his actions from the outside looking in and could see how he had affected people and how his life would turn out if he didn't make any changes. These pieces both share a gothic trope of frightening and gloomy scenes. The scene that can be seen through both pieces are death and rebirth and learning from experiences life gives you.

I like how you found that both Poe and Batman have something that symbolizes or contains their grief in their story. Batman's lies in "vengance" and Poe's lies in the Raven. I also find it interesting that both Batman and Poe lived very troubled, sad lives and made something of it. Poe made legendary literature and Batman became a hero.
