To do this, we chose a destination to mail it to and were taught the basics about writing a business letter. I really liked this assignment because I received a reply from Stanford, the place I wrote to, and received a brochure and a pennant from them.

In modern days, teens are always listening to music, whether it be rap, country, or korean pop. This assignment was very enjoyable because we got to select a song that disclosed a message about society and talk about it. For mine, I chose 1-800-273-8255 by Logic and our class had a pleasant time presenting it because we got to hear clips of our favorite songs.

This assignment required us to write a two-voice poem about the two main characters in A Long Walk to Water, create a slide about it, and present it in front of the class. I wasn't particularly fond of presenting my poem, for public speaking is not one of my skills, but i did enjoy creating the slide.

We worked with our writing partners to create a funny obituary for an object we chose, incorporating puns and other types of figurative language. It was really fun because who would've ever thought our homework assignment would be to come up with puns?

Socratic Seminar

A Socratic Seminar is when a class of students sits in a layout similar to a circle and has a civilized discussion about a given topic. It's very similar to a debate. For our first Socratic Seminar, we spoke about the topic of bullying because that was the theme of a book we had just finished, The Wastons Go to Birmingham. Our second seminar was about what we thought the theme of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens was. I think I spoke way too much in the first Socratic Seminar because I didn't know what to expect; however, for the second one I did pretty well.

I received a 95/90 on my literary devices final exam when I was almost sure I would not be receiving even a passing score. I was overly happy to receive a 103% and I hope I can achieve that again.

The Best Thing I Read This Year

The best thing I read this year was the book Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. This story tells about a girl and a guy becoming friends, despite judgement from other students, until one day a tragic event occurrs. This was my favorite book because the characters seemed so real and it was really well-written.
