I think some of this distance did start when we moved to 6GMS, which doesn't make it as conducive to have general conversations across the office as it did in the Business School. I hope that this can bring the teams across the IO back together somewhat and that this is something that is a catalyst for the appropriate change and action happens

This is the only university I've worked in where a) professional development is not mentioned frequently and actively encouraged, with budget allocated for such activity and b) staff aren't undertaking qualifications alongside their work, supported by the university. For such a large institution this is incredibly disappointing that it does not value its support staff in this way, and a bit ironic given the emphasis we put on this for our students! If anyone wants to take a qualification to develop their professional skills they need to do so at their own cost, regardless of the positive impact this would have on their work and the work of the team overall. Could the People Plan team work with the Staff Development team to look at opportunities for staff (internal and external) and allocate sufficient budget to enable staff the chance to develop?
