During the Civil Rights Movement, people began opening up to the black community and starting to accept them as human. "Other" minorities like the Spanish community saw this and craved their own version of humanistic and societal equality. Thus the fight against racism and hate continued. The Latino communities' main goals included: Representing their culture/gaining respect for their culture, passing certain laws regarding their backgrounds, and finally, gaining equality.

During the Civil Rights Movement, groups like the Brown Beret and UFW would fight for equality in education: Proud of their culture and where they're from, they hired lobbyists, into passing the BILINGUAL EDUCATION ACT.

BROWN BERETS

In 1966, LA California: Two people: David Sanchez and Carlos Montes were inspired by the Black Panthers (black activism group) - to start their own. The Brown Berets. This group was formed to help and support the Latino community, and to help battle discrimination and inequality within society/nationally.

UNITED FARM WORKER UNION - UFW

Throughout the civil rights era, other minorities began to protest for their rights. The Latino/central american groups being one of them. These are average members part of UNITED FARM WORKERS. A union fighting mainly for work space equality (equality in the workplace).
