I think the Incas struggled with finding the right materials to make buildings or homes.  For example finding a substance like glue to hold the rocks together was probably difficult to come across.

The Inca were able to live up in the mountains with food, shelter, water, and protection from other tribes that could harm them. They used rocks and stones around them too build sturdy houses and buildings. They survived many battles because the other tribes couldn’t find them hidden the mountains, and even if the tribes found them it would take hours many even days to climb the mountain. It also isn’t easy to carry like 500 guns and canyons up a huge mountain in heavy amour.

Incas built canals that brought water to the fields(irrigation), and farmed on terraced fields. The canals brought water to the crops because the climate in the Inca territory was arid. This helped the mountainous climate because they didn’t have to walk down to the rivers to get water.
