Hi and Assalamualaikum. In today's forum, we would talk about the future for education in a post covid-19 and their impact to the society. Let me start with the definition of the covid-19. According to WebMd (2020) A coronavirus is a kind of common virus that causes an infection in your nose, sinuses, or upper throat. Most coronaviruses aren't dangerous. In early 2020, after a December 2019 outbreak in China, the World Health Organization identified SARS-CoV-2 as a new type of coronavirus. The outbreak quickly spread around the world.COVID-19 is a disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 that can trigger what doctors call a respiratory tract infection. It can affect your upper respiratory tract (sinuses, nose, and throat) or lower respiratory tract (windpipe and lungs).
According to WHO (2020) The economic and social disruption caused by the pandemic is devastating: tens of millions of people are at risk of falling into extreme poverty, while the number of undernourished people, currently estimated at nearly 690 million, could increase by up to 132 million by the end of the year. Majority of us have been living with schools closed and some form of lockdown for a very long time at this point. For all the rethinking of education in the 21st century, no one expected that the best interruption of all would come from one virus. As education policymakers everywhere on the world dealing with social distancing learning and safe school reopen, they will no uncertainty likewise be contemplating what the pandemic actually means for education in the more extended term. What do you guys think?

Reference:
Neha, P, Md.

Normally when we discuss about covid-19 and its impact to education, the first thing that would pops into our mind is ultimately goes to back to students especially the ones who will be graduating in college because they sought interactions and by interaction I mean face-to-face interaction but due to covid-19 that would be impossible and damage the learning process and ultimately causes low performance in classes. There are three main disadvantages of Covid-19 in educational department and its impact to society.

Firstly, majority of students still do not own themselves a computer or laptop to continue an online learning which could cause them missing classes. Secondly, online class would be less ineffective due to learning from blue screen and decrease focus in class due to distractions from normal causes such as rain and thunderstorm. Last but not least, the majority of working students would lose their jobs due to covid-19 policy and that would cost them their monthly allowance.

Reference:

Mallidi, S.
What’s your personal opinion on the future for education in a post covid-19 and their impact to the society?

In my opinion, in such cases like these, next time a virus makes a landfall in some place around, the leaders are the ones who are in charge of communicating with the other leaders in the country in order to prevent it from spreading further. Sometimes we really can’t detect on how to do so, but with covid-19 being our example, leaders should be able to have a plan as to how to handle such chaos and not just one plan. Make as many plans as you can and see which one succeeds the most as for education, and it goes out to everyone. Teachers need to make sure there’s cleaning supplies and when a student is feeling sick, it’s best they stay home. According to unicef, teachers should encourage students to get into the practice of regularly washing their hands and/or applying hand sanitizers at key moments, such as entering and leaving the classroom; touching surfaces, learning materials, books, and after using a tissue to blow their nose. Also, they should encourage all students to stay home and self-isolate when they feel ill. Now for society, I’m certain such diseases will still come but then again, it goes back to what I’m saying. Leaders should prepare for the worst, and have a plan. And people should cooperate, or things will not got well if they don’t.

Reference:
unicef (2020).

Everything that happens in this world has their own pros and cons just like the Covid-19 disease that attacks all around the world. Besides giving something negative to people, Covid-19 also give something positive to us in terms to change our norm to a new norm. For example, online classes.

The bulk of our students today are from generation Z, a generation that grew up in a genuinely global environment. The older generation, now 25, will undoubtedly focus on their schooling in the midst of a genuinely global pandemic with many facing cancellation, athletic activities and even graduation. The technology defines this age, which communicates anticipation of immediate communication and input from words FOBA (Fear of Alone) and the FOMO (Fear of Losing Out), made by applications such as Instant Messaging, Snapchat and WhatsApp. This involves something exacerbated by the new remote learning from the parents and educators.

This generation is also a generation that sees the power to work together to address the main problems of the planet, including climate change and mental health, as a top priority on its agenda and currently its mutual duty to distance itself to protect ageing community members.

Generation Alpha, the offspring of thousands of years, is the most racially diverse generation in the world, in which technology simply expands their own awareness and identity, with social media being a way of life. These young pre-school children are often the generation of the most untraditional homes, with "bulldozer parents frequently eliminating barriers to build a clear path for their children. While Generation Alpha is now unaware of the influence of the global pandemic on its education, the effect will undoubtedly be felt for our youngest students in the coming years.

In the aftermath of the COVID-19 disaster, we know that colleagues, including ourselves, are asking what our students will need to brace for. In 2030 85 percent of the workers entered in the Z and Alpha generations have been not yet invented, according to a survey by Dell Technologies Accordingly, 65% of primary school children today work for jobs which do not yet exist similar to this World Economic Forum Survey.

The crisis of COVID-19 will definitely shift our environment and our global perspective; it will show us how schooling has to change to help our young learners properly plan for what the future holds. The following lessons are:

1. Added Flexibility and Self-Paced Learning

Not many people will take time off from their jobs to pursue a complete curriculum of learners, and some people also go to work. The versatility of an online curriculum gives people the chance to learn while both doing business and becoming professional, for those who still have to go back to school.

You can study on your own time by obtaining a master's degree online. Instead of leaving the office early, or springing from your family dinner to the campus, you log in if it is easy for you—in a moment when other obligations do not impede. This versatility makes work, life and higher education easier to balance.

In addition, students are not often happy to ask teachers to repeat an argument they made during their previous lecture or to dig into a particular subject in more depth. You may study previous content while studying online, or interrupt the lecture to do more analysis or arrange notes. You should progress through the course at your own pace and ensure that when you move to the next segment, you fully master the subject. The inclusion of this versatility enables online learners to get the most out of the degree programme at their own pace.

2. Better Time Management

Fogging is no easy thing to do in work, family and education. Employers understand that and appreciate the time management strengths that all three need to balance. Because a course curriculum does not have predetermined classroom hours and students have the freedom to draw up their plans, it is up to the student to proactively reach the faculty, complete appointments and prepare for the future.

We know that managers want us to be successful in handling our time. It is never enough to be at the desk and stay till the end of the day; most of us want further tasks to be completed with less time. Online courses keep you up to date and reach deadlines, so you can maximise your time and be active on a weekly basis. Employer also appreciates and views these capabilities as a desirable advantage to future hires in terms of time management competencies to complete an on-line curriculum.

Melanie Kasparian, associate director of assessment at Northeastern College of Professional Studies, shares tips on how to be a successful online learner, recommending students work consistently throughout the week. A sample schedule, she says, may look similar to this:

Monday: Begin required readings and multimedia.

Tuesday: Continue reviewing materials.

Wednesday: Post to the discussion forum and begin assignments.

Thursday: Continue posting and working on assignments.

Friday: Read and respond to posts and work on assignments.

Saturday: Read and respond to posts and finish assignments.

Sunday: Check your work and submit assignments.

Kasparian says, “Working on the train, during a lunch break, or in the morning—there’s really no right time to study, as long as it fits your life.”

3. Demonstrated Self-Motivation

When you have successfully finished your Masters online, you prove that you can handle your time and are self-inspired, who want to see the 10 best employers of new hires. By receiving an online degree, you show that you can address many assignments, set goals and respond to changing working conditions.

Teachers expect students to become autonomous, learn by themselves and participate in the curriculum they teach. It's the same in people; managers expect you to be self-motivated, to pursue things that concern you and search for new directions and chances to do it. The more your heart gets in – whether it's online schooling or working with your boss – the more success you would be.

3. Lower Total Costs

Many forward-looking students lack online classes' cost advantages. Although online students may pay the same rate per credit as graduates and credential applicants on campus, they are not charged for houses or meals on campus. By removing commute learners often save time and money.

Cheaper textbooks are also cost-effective, in particular if digital copies are accessible for online learners. As long as online students obtain ample credit to be part-time students, they may pursue funding services from the Federal Government, including grants and loans. Most universities now allow applicants for institutional funding, including need and merit-based grants, to apply electronically to graduate and degree seekers.

5. More Comfortable Learning Environment

With the ability to study anywhere online, students can take lessons at home, in a café or in a library. This online learning advantage enables students to work the best way in the environment. New online graduates and searchers for certificates should concentrate on locations offering a reliable internet connection and little entertainment. Space requirements are also to be taken into account since some table facilities may lack computer and reference material space.

6. Improve Your Technical Skills

Online learning can assist students in improving their technical skills. The ability to use new software suites can be new competences, carry out extensive research in-line and effectively communicate online in different formats such as panels and conference. These skills are often requested by employers because more and more jobs are being re-employed. Students are also able to add new skills to a CV and discuss them at a job interview.

References:
Poornima L.
