This is my personal summative project. Each YFC member creates their own project involving Austin's Urban Forest that is worked on most of the school year. I'll teach the kids how to identify trees and plants and contribute to the growth of Austin's Urban Forest. It is very important to introduce these things at a young age in order for the next generation to have a bigger impact on reducing climate change and to make our city a place people enjoy living in. It is also important to me to let kids be outside as much as they can and learn about the natural world. Learning through and in nature provides countless opportunities for kids to discover, question, and solve things on their own. Learning outside is known to support behavioral, emotional, and intellectual development. I'm able to educate others on a topic I feel strongly about and am well educated on. Soon I will teach a large portion of an Elementary school about how they can keep our city healthy and green and hopefully inspire some to be outside more. I really love doing this and am always motivated to work on my projects, wake up early to plant grass to stop the land from eroding, dig holes to plant trees, and all that comes with this internship because I am very passionate about the outdoors and keeping it healthy for the next generations.
