Make It Happen! Don't Give Excuses...Find solutions

A different tone in this chapter... lol but since he's going there... my pet peeve is when leaders lack compassion and shout (tonally or even inadvertently) messages like "Make it happen!!" "Find solutions" "No excuses!! Etc.." Our job is to ensure that it happens and for most, it is our goal and desire that it does happen...Frustration ignites when progress is delayed or is simply not present. There are many opportunities for guidance, support, and ways to offer and receive help... Sometimes we guage the level of support we give based on our own perceptions, but do we really offer effective support and feedback that gets results? Support that's specific and differentiated for that person? Lets take this same tone into the classroom shall we? Senario: "You're in the final stages of STAAR prep, it's your toughest class and everyone is under a lot of stress... you decide to repeat what Mr. Johnson has told you in a staff meeting and tell your students "MAKE IT HAPPEN" "Don't make excuses!" and "Find Solutions!" Imagine your student's response or lack thereof, or the number of phone calls I'll receive from angry or concerned parents... I wonder if we would see any of the desired results with that tone expressed throughout the school? My Point: In every disappointment, in every low score, in every behavioral challenge, in every area, remember that we are a team and that you are not alone. Together, we will find solutions, together, we will see progress, together, we will continue to thrive on excelled communication and community engagement, together, we will troubleshoot, research, and will not stop until we succeed. We must be patient and understanding, set our expectations, lead by example, remember to be nurturing and offer feedback and support that builds a team. #ItTakesAVillage #TheRightMindSet #Leadership #Compassion #CollaborationIsKey

This was one of perks of being in school back in the 90's LOL! Students then were taught how to make bullet points.... and make notes!

Again, I hear Ron Clark however, there are times when students need a second chance and should be given the opportunity to try again. Honestly that's life... Where would we be if we only had one shot? #Compassion We all need it.

In my educational experience, the students I've placed in lunch/recess detention, after school detention, ISS etc somehow/someway end up appreciating me and respecting me more for holding him/her accountable. Correction is like a knife, carving out the imperfections of an individual. After it's over, the student leaves better. Who wouldn't like the person that believes in them enough to see that they make better choices and to do what they know is right? Sure they're mad initially, but our students are not dumb... there are deep rooted problems, areas in their life that need to be addressed or have been abandoned... They know it and if you watch closely, you know it too... Appropriate Consequences and interventions given with good intent, will never negatively impact relationships. #Refinement #PureGoldInTheMaking
