Learning object for this activity of the lesson: Students will be able to gather information about Ireland and Irish culture by using think-pair-share contrast US and Ireland culture. After completing this ending of the activity with the students I thought it would be more comprehensive to put two students work side by side to see a comparison. In the first image, the student had well developed critical thinking about information that was presented throughout the whole lesson. What I thought was most impressive (even though she had a hard time spelling) was that she talked about how they speak a different language in Ireland as well as eat different foods. Most of the students told me about how green good luck here in the U.S. is while green is considered bad luck on St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland. I thought this was a very developed insight and would consider this student as meeting or exceeding the learning objective. The second image also had some impressive insight even though he did not complete the “what my partner thinks” portion of the worksheet. I noticed as I was going around the room that this student in particular was helping his partner out with writing and showing him what he needs to complete. That is why I was not so concerned with this student specifically writing down his partner’s ideas because he was helping his partner through the process. What really stood out to me about this student’s understanding from the lesson is that he understood that in Ireland they have different beliefs than people in the US. This completely exceeded my expectations, because I was just looking for the students to give me examples, not overarching concepts/ big ideas. Learning objective for this activity of the lesson: Students will be able to distinguish information about Irish dance through research using tablets/computers in groups. In the first image this group that was doing research exceeded my expectation for this part of the activity because this student was able to take the information from the website and put it into her own words and list different aspects of the article. I thought this was very impressive. The second image this group was doing research and met my expectation for this part of the activity. They wrote from what was said in the website and was able to pick out key concepts about Irish dancing. Learning object for this activity of the lesson: Students will be able to gather information about Ireland and Irish culture by using think-pair-share contrast US and Ireland culture. In the first image is of a student that has a lower reading level which shows in his write with improper grammar and spelling. I would say this student still met the expectation of what was learned from the lesson, however, I was not very happy with the level of spelling and writing. He had the concept down about giving me an example and he actually gave me two examples. The fact he wrote that they “eat different” was awesome he had that included and took that away from the lesson. This student did not finish the sharing portion; however, I was not as concerned about that part as to make sure they were able to talk with their partners and listen to their partners. In the second image this is from one of the higher performing students in the class. She was very detailed in her writing and for the most part had minimal spelling errors. Her use of diction such as “traditional” to describe the food really impressed me.
