5. All able Muslims must make a pilgrimage (hajj) to Mecca at least once in their lifetimes.
Mecca houses Islam's holiest site, the Kaaba. It was believed to have been built for God
by Abraham.

The idea of Jihad is what causes acts of terrorism. A small group of Muslims think that they should have war against non believers.  Most of Islam is peaceful and rejects the idea of war. The idea of Jihad is whidespread but it has not been accepted to be one of the pillars.

In A.D. 622, fearing for his life, Muhammad went to the town of Medina. This flight from Mecca to Medina became known as the Hegira or Hijra, Arabic for "flight.” In Medina, the local people welcomed Muhammad. There, Muhammad built the first Islamic temple to separate Islam from Judaism and Christianity.
