1939-The Battle of the Atlantic

The Battle of the Atlantic was the struggle between Allied Forces and German Forces in order for one of them to control the Atlantic Ocean. German U-Boats, Submarines, and ships kept on sinking merchant ships in order to reduce the allied powers supplies.

September 1, 1939-Germany attacks Poland

This is where German forces launched a surprise attack on Poland. The reason that Hitler had attacked Poland is because he wanted more land for Germans to live on and he knew that Poland was not strong enough to beat them in the invasion.

August 3, 1939-Germany and The USSR sign the Nazi-Soviet Impact

June 10, 1940- Italy joins the war and, on June 27, invades southern France

September 3, 1939-Great Britain and France declare War on Germany.

On the same day of the Invasion of Poland, France declared War on Germany, and two days after Great Britain declared War on Germany. Although two countries declared war on Germany, nothing ever really happened. People called it the "Phoney War" because very little actually happened.

December 7, 1941-The Japanese launch a surprise attack on the Us Naval base in Pearl Harbor Hawaii

April 9, 1942-Bataan Death March begins

The Battle of Bataan was a battle that was fought by the United states and Philippine Commonwealth against Imperial Japan. This battle represented the most intense phase of the Japanese invasion of the Philippines.The Americans and Filipino troops were able to fight for a few months until they eventually surrendered the Japanese troops and they were forced into the Bataan Death March. Some of the most horrific war crimes were committed by the Japanese during this march.

May 4-8, 1942-The Battle of Coral Sea

The Battle of Coral sea was a Naval Battle that occurred in WW2. It was also an air engagement which was when a US fleet turned to a Japanese invasion force that was heading for Port Moresby in New Guinea. The United States lost one carried, one carrier was damaged, and one oilier and destroyer were sunk. We had also last 66 aircraft. In total of US men there was 543 wounded or killed.

June 3-7, 1942-The Battle of Midway

The Battle of Midway was a "Naval Battle" but mostly consistent of aircraft combat that was fought in WW2. In this Battle within just five minutes, the US had hit three Japanese aircraft carriers which took a turn and why this Battle was so large, and took 4 days. In total the United States destroyed Japan's first-line carrier strength and most of their best trained naval pilots.

September 3, 1943-Italy surrenders unconditionally

On this day, Eisenhower publicly announces the surrender of Italy to the Allies, Germany reacted with an operation axis. People say Mussolini's government "practically evaporated" which is why surrendered.

June 6, 1944-Operation Overlord D-Day

On this day, this operation brought together the land, air, as well as sea forces of the allied armies which is now known as the largest water invasion in military history. This delivered five naval assault division to the beaches of Normandy, France.

February 4-11, 1945-Yalta Conference

The Yalta Conference lasted 7 days at a town in Russia. There was Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin. These three discussed Germany's eventual surrender, postwar of Germany and Poland, and the conditions that would be caused if Stalin entered the war against Japan.

February 19-March 26, 1945-The Battle of Iwo Jima

U.S. Marines invaded Iwo Jima after a long period of naval and air battles. The Japanese defenders were dug into deep bunkers with volcanic rocks. There was approximately 70,000 U.S Maries and 18,000 Japanese soldiers. The island was declared secured on March 26, 1945. After this Battle took place, Iwo Jima served as an emergency landing site.

April 12, 1945 FDR dies, Harry Truman becomes president

April 1-June 22, 1945-Battle of Okinawa

The Battle of Okinawa was a battle of the Pacific War fought on the island of Okinawa by the United States Army and Marine Corps forces against the Imperial Japanese Army. The islands surrounding Okinawa was captured on March 26th but the Infantry Division.

May 8, 1945-V-E Day

On V-E Day Germant surrendered it's military forces to the Allies including the U.S. On this day, celebrations were celebrated all around the world because World War 2 officially ended in Europe.

July 17-August 2, 1945-Potsdam Conference

April 30, 1945 Hitler commits suicide

August 9, 1945-US drops an atomic bomb on Nagasaki

August 6, 1945-U.S. Drops atomic bomb on Hiroshima

On this day, an American B-29 bomber dropped the world's first deployed atomic bomb over the Japanese City, Hiroshima. On impact, the bomb killed about 80,000 people and then thousands more died of radiation exposure.
