1. One of the topics Dr Wen discusses is how a medical provider would not allow the parents of a 19 yr old in a coma to attend rounds because he was afraid they might "see mistakes and sue the hospital". Is it appropriate to withhold all discussions from families and only share what we believe to be the right decisions?
2. Another point of research Dr. Wen discussed is how patients want to be able to trust their providers. In order to do so, the providers should be expressing their views on topics such as LGBTQ, reproductive choices, preventative medicine, etc. Should providers disclose their views and values? Would disclosing this effect their ability to treat patients appropriately?

One of the topics Rebecca Onie discusses is how Healthcare Policy is geared towards treating the ill, instead of preventing the illness. She discuss how many providers try and treat the disease but fail to recognize the underling barriers patients face to prevent sickness. Such as, not being able to get to a pharmacy to fill a prescription. Therefore my first question is, "How do you think healthcare policy could be geared more towards health promotion instead of disease management?"

Another point of discussion in this TED TALK is an organization known as "HEALTH LEADS". This organization utilizes volunteers to deliver basic health care necessities. Such as, providing food for the malnourished. Therefore my next question is "How could you as a healthcare provider enlist the community to help deliver basic health care needs in at risk populations?"

LINK to TED TALK
https://www.ted.com/talks/rebecca_onie_what_if_our_health_care_system_kept_us_healthy?utm_campaign=tedspread&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=tedcomshare

Healthcare financing refers to the management of funds and medical resources. On a personal level, financing refers to payments regarding hospital care, physician care, dental care, prescriptions, and other personal medical services.

Dr Jeffrey Brenner talks about how to change our approach to healthcare costs. He points out the issue related to the Medicare coverage, where doctors are payed more if they treat patients by hospitalizing and ordering advanced imaging and get payed less if they talk with the patient. This approach drives more hospitalization and procedures and as result the treatment costs is increasing tremendously.

Dr Jeffrey Brenner emphasizes the importance of building a good preventive care system that can lead to remodeling of the fragmented healthcare problems.

In your opinion what actions can be taken in order to decrease the health care costs and increase the community health care coverage? What is your point of view about the government needs to pay for preventive care?

She gives a good example with GFR on how it is interpreted by race—GFR is calculated differently for African Americans because they are “supposed to have more muscle mass than other races.” Dorothy speaks on how race can blind doctors of family illnesses, patient history and the patients own illnesses by categorically treating patients only because of race.

The TEDTalk “Will healthcare embrace digital or will we die waiting?” by Karalee Close brought a new meaning to utilizing digital for healthcare. She discusses how using technology can benefit our population and community. She also talks about how utilizing the data from the past can help predict the future in early patient’s diagnosis. The different ways patients can use digital technology is through video chat with health care and apps that can help patient remember to take their medications.

In your practice, does your department utilize any digital technology to communicate with their patients? If so, how do they use it? If not, do you think it would be beneficial for your department to use something like this?

Also, she talks about patient’s being able to call in their sign and symptoms to the doctors instead of seeing them in person. Do you feel like if everyone started to utilize digital technology for communication that we would lose touch of what is happening to our patients?
