8) CONCLUSION

In conclusion, we consider that GMOs are harmful for both the Earth and humans. We think this because even though GMOs products’ prices are low, they contain more product, and give the farmers and companies more variables and economic benefits during production, we still don’t know for sure what, we, the consumers eat. We don’t support GMOs because these days not every GMO is definitely proven to not harm humans’ health since GMOs are new and people still don’t know the long term consequences of using them. Other factors that contribute to our posture is that some GMOs are proven to damage croplands by adding into the soil more pesticides and toxic substances, as well that genetically modified food and animals could be introduced with allergies or toxins.

On the other hand, we consider that Fortified and Enriched food have their cons and pros, but we mostly support it. The purpose of fortified food is to improve the nutritional quality of food, reduce nutritional disorders, fortification for the body building, and fortification for medical treatment. And the purpose of Enriched food is when foods are processed they often lose some of the important nutrients such as vitamins and minerals in the process, if the food is labeled “enriched” it means that the vitamins and/or minerals which were lost have simply been added back to restore it to its original nutritional value. Many consumers think that “enriched” means that the food has extra nutrients added to it which will make it more nutritious. That is not true. It has simply been restored to its original state. From this information, we can ultimately conclude that in fact fortified and enriched food instead of harming our health it helps it and improve it giving the necessary nutrients, minerals, and antioxidants that our body needs in food.
