in the beginning, writing, to me at the very least, wasn't something I cared for. As time passed, it slowly grew to be has a form of escape, where it has allowed me to jump into a world, be it fiction or otherwise, that allows me to see things differently. It's something that lets me think, relax and get my emotions out. I think the reasoning behind my perspective is because when I was young, I thought a lot about the world and the people around but didn't talk too often because I was scared of speaking out my thoughts. Writing has since then allowed me to let them out in a different way.

I disliked writing in primary and secondary education. It was very constrained and often introduced in a timed context. I did not begin to enjoy writing until undergrad, when I was granted a significant degree of freedom in research and how I would structure my writing. Another big step for me was realizing that "writing" is not an isolated academic activity. Every reddit post I made, forum post, facebook post, tweet, etc was a piece of writing. From thereon out, I began to actually enjoy writing and think more about its role in my life. Naturally, the next step was viewing writing as a subject of study and art rather than an action done in class for a grade.

Writing is so many things to me it's hard to sum it up. Writing is an escape, a chore, a hobby, a tool, a challenge, and more. It is like a family member: I love it but our relationship is not always easy and pleasant. I think this is because it has been such a long relationship with so many different experiences, also like a relationship with a family member. Like, I loved writing stories and poems as a kid, and journaling and poetry were important for me as a teen, but I have also had a really hard time with some writing assignments, both with the process and the grades. So my feelings about writing are definitely shaped by all the accumulated experiences I have had with it.
