My name is Josie. I’m one of the Ed.S students. I’m from outside of Philadelphia, PA, but I did my undergrad at Arizona State University. My major was psychology with a minor in sociology. I also studied/speak Spanish. I love languages in general. I studied French and American Sign Language as well.

I love animals and chatting! I just turned 23 in May. I’m currently a caregiver for an Autistic adult, and it’s the best job in the world. We volunteer at a farm and an elementary school together.

My name is Alyssa (Holmquist), and I'm in the PhD program.

I really love music, both listening and playing. I love going to concerts (two I'm looking forward to this year are Will Wood and My Chemical Romance), and I can play guitar, ukulele, piano (a little bit lol), and sing.

My research interests mainly focus around policy and advocacy right now, but more broadly I'm interested in mental health, particularly at the Tier 1 level, and inequities in the school system, especially for LGBTQ+ students.

I'd like to think my most notable hobby is long boarding, but I've fallen off of it this summer. A really fun fact that I can share is that I hosted a funeral for myself when I graduated (it was a fun way to get my friends to write speeches about me).

In my undergrad I did research on the effects of the pandemic on students what support would have eased the transition to virtual learning. I want to keep a similar energy going into this program, namely in fostering support for students. I am also invested in the mental health of students, with my stint as a 988 line counselor fueling it.

I’m originally from New Orleans, and I went to undergrad at the University of Alabama. I love outdoorsy things so I’m excited to explore Gainesville through hiking, swimming, and traveling to nearby lakes, beaches, etc. Also food & drinks. Looking forward to meeting you all!
