The production process transforms inputs into market-ready outputs. When launching a new product, manufacturers must choose the most suitable process—options include production line, continuous flow, custom manufacturing, and fixed position manufacturing. The choice depends on available facilities, staff, and information systems. Each process has strengths: some are ideal for mass production, others for customized items. Thanks to business software and internet tools, small firms can use the same systems as large ones, allowing them to focus on quality production. Flexible manufacturing is especially suitable for small businesses. It uses CNC machines and robotic cells, enabling quick product changes in response to market demands. In contrast, production lines and continuous flow methods are better for high-volume, standardized products, moving items through sequential workstations via conveyor belts or manual transport.
